Cloudflare drops Cody Wilson (Hatreon / GhostGunner) as client

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
So during the Daily Stormer thing I was willing to accept that if they had started openly associating Cloudflare as "secret nazis" sympathetic towards their message, they had valid cause to drop them. Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

Hatreon did no such thing. GhostGunner did no such thing. Cloudflare's decision to remove them is entirely political and completely unbelievable and disgusting.

This indicates the dam has broken. Cloudflare is compromised. They are as bad as the rest now.

I was just pontificating on the larger situation, because with centralized (in this case, corporate) control of resources (in this case, information and access to information), these kinds of scenarios are going to escalate.
Why do you think they will escalate?

Edit: To elaborate: I don't see any reason why the current laissez faire system of webhosting will change. Prior restraint is expensive to pull off and there's huge amounts of money (more money than in settled uses of the web) in letting people fuck around than in policing anything.

Silicon Valley makes money when random nerds make neat shit. There's always going to be some crazy dipshit who bets on the nerd and makes bank. Investors keep eyeing people like that and no one wants to kill the golden goose.

You'll get occasional shitfits like we're seeing, but I haven't seen any evidence that suggests the ability of little guys to start stuff up is hampered. In fact, there hasn't been any hampering of little guys starting stuff up.

In concrete terms: You can still take your credit card and rent a vps from digitalocean, and they won't ask you what you're using it for. They never will.
The CWCki, on the other hand...
We got hacked because of petty spergs.

Oh, I didn't mean cloudbleed was some unforgivable bug. Especially with how software life cycles have changed, you're exactly right in that everything is going to have bugs. But random business degree people and clients who aren't devs see spooky scary clouudbleed headlines and will pass judgement. Last place I worked the only thing that mattered for "threat modeling" was how much shit the company would get. And now Cloudfare sees cheap and easy PR, so they take it. It just puts a bunch of people behind the 8 ball.

I love seeing the F-REEEEE MARKET crowd whine about the various recent client drops by companies.
I get the sentiment and it's not entirely without merit. But it breaks down a little bit when you've got only a tiny number of gigantic corporations moving in lockstep. These companies seem to want the benefit of being treated as a public utility without owning up to the obligations thereof.

No, I agree, and it is worrying how freeze peach effectively doesn't apply to the internet since it's mostly all run by companies. On the other hand, I really dislike ancaps/libertarians and them being mad is funny.

I think that what is happening is people are associating people who defend nazis and the confederate monuments with terrorism. Because people are afraid of terrorism, they will sacrifice their rights for safety

I would have to agree, but things are easier said than done. In his time, there were no cars, breech loading-magazine fed firearms or even any explosive device besides gunpowder.

It is quite funny despite the fact that under libertarian terms this is actually acceptable. A libertarian argument in favor of this could be: When one registers to use an online service they enter a voluntary contract with the service provider. If one violates the said terms of the service contract. Than they are guilty of violating the non aggression principal.

Real Christians use that exact argument. I've also heard them say the rainbow flag is a hate symbol because it promotes hatred towards Christians and Christian values.
Then it's a good thing that there aren't any pro-gay groups running around and doing exactly that, right?

You think it was safer back then? Death by injun was still a natural cause.

fucking sick of this shit. this is why social justice and political correctness have such a negative connotation. these concepts can exist, but they've been taken to draconian levels to erase any wrongthink.

"Political correctness" has always had a negative connotation, and rightly so. It's inextricably tied with Russia punishing people for wrongthink by sending them to "re-education" camps.

Hatreon is the right wing echo chamber much like tumblr is for SJWs. By allowing hatreon to exist there is a chance for even more members of the alt-right (who should now be labelled as domestic terrorists for their violent behavior) to get the motivation to commit violent acts. Free speech is being stretched to the limit and stuff like this is a consequence of acting out.

Cloudflare's CEO spoke like that with their actions. Because the Alt-right has committed violence and people are now demanding this be treated like a terrorist incident, Cloudflare had to take action

If you - or anyone else - can't distinguish between the "alt-right", conservatives, white separatists, and literal Nazis, then I don't know what to tell you. Plenty of leftists/liberals are able to make that distinction.

The rainbow flag is a hate symbol. I believe marriage is between man and woman as ordained by God, and homosexuality is a sin. By flamboyantly showing your homosexuality you are creating a hostile environment for me because I'm scared God will abandon my soul with everyone else's when he judges the world. You know my identity, but you still choose to make me live in terror of walking out my door?

See how easy that was? Anything can be a hate symbol if the right person gets their hands on the lever. These people are so goddamned blind.

There's nothing wrong with getting upset at something someone says. We all routinely get annoyed, pissed off, angry or sad in reaction to terrible, stupid or gross things that people say.

The problem comes when people use unpleasant feelings as a reason to silence any speech that they feel upsets them.

An even bigger problem comes when the government or special interest groups encourage corporations, which in many cases now have governmental powers of onsite search and seizure and as a whole the capacity to throttle free speech, to use the anticipation of fomenting violence as a reason to limit and destroy free speech.

Alt.right is a meaningless category in this regard because a knee-jerk liberal like me is now an alt.right for finding the limitation of free speech enforced by corporations anathema to the constitution. On the basis you lined out - alt.right did bad things so they need to have their speech limited - I need to be silenced as well because I'm encouraging violence by refusing to accept that using businesses to enforce freedom of speech limitations is a very bad idea.

Yeah I find it really scary that government institutions could be using big corporations as a para-governmental wing to try and restrict the media we consume. Hell with Hatreon and Daily Stormer you just had to read their articles to get a good laugh at how exceptional they are because unless you have an ax to grind personality against the blacks and jews, they are borderline retarded. My question is how long will this continue until these groups start to attack left wing to even left leaning news sources?
