Sometimes I feel he claims a vague emergency and then starts taking notes on what "fan theory" garners the most pity on the forum. That way he can tard cum it all for maximum 'tism...er... pity bux.

Or the opposite: let people speculate and then say 'my detractors are such morons, you're way off, the IRS aren't freaking auditing me, dude! Hyuk hyuk yuk.

From what I got from the latest whinefest, the big scary Train at the end of the tunnel if everything goes to shit is having to move out of his family sized mcMansion into an apartment........Isn't this something that would be a good idea regardless of whatever he claims is hovering over him? Theres also technically the 'worst case scenario' of moving back to Connecticut but he said 1 second later it'll be even more expensive so why is this something that he's even fearing if it logically can't happen by his own information?

Didn't watch the stream to see bits and tips but what I have seen it does not seem Phil is getting his usual support post emergency vlog he use to get. His own forum has a thread full of actual advice that even his usual ass kissers are not trying to silence. The only person who made a snotty comment in the thread was Phil which makes this whole thing smell like bullshit. If this was really serious he would shut down anyone saying anything critical, but he is letting it slide and encouraging people to keep guessing. This is what may have happened.

Let's say the emergency was his info was part of the Equifax leak. He finds that out and like the self centered drama queen he is he automatically thinks someone will pick him out of the 100+ million people because everyone is out to get him and he is such an important public figure he would be first. So he sits and thinks up the worst case scenario and since he has nobody to talk to that can slap him out of his hysteria he makes a vlog. This vlog of course has the usual hallmarks of any begging blog, detractors, copyright strikes, nothing I could do, etc. Now he can't tell the actual problem because then someone would try to seek out his info so we are left with one of his more bizarre vlogs including Phil comparing himself to Jonah and implies he is being tested by God. After this is done he takes a sleeping pill and goes to bed. He wakes up today, probably laughs at how silly it was he got so panicked, but decides to keep this going until vacation to get those extra pity bucks.

The Equifax idea doesn't make sense. Aside from affecting 1/3rd of the country, you're obviously not responsible for fraud in your name from an identity thief if you're not lazy and keep on it. Okay...maybe he would be in trouble. But its strange for a normal person to go dramaqueen over this.

It affected upwards of 44% of the US population- and since about 25% of the US population (people under 20) probably has no information in Equifax's systems it's probably upwards of 59% of the people they had data on.

He overshares so much that people could probably get loans and credit cards in his name if he didn't pay attention to the mail he'd get. The only think keeping it from being a possibility is that his SSN is still unknown.

I dislike Phil as much as the next guy but anyone who needs this shit explained to them deserves to get their money taken. He's explicitly telling you that all you get is a shoutout for your money and you get mad that you only get a shoutout for your money? That's called being a mark and marks get their money stolen.

Phil is a lot of things but he's not usually a liar about things that can be easily proven. If he's saying that people are wrong about the IRS audit angle then it must be something else, otherwise he'd have kept his mouth shut and not done his whole 'you're all wrong,' post.

In general that post should erode any sympathy that was held towards him for his emergency video. Something that he portrayed as serious and upsetting was turned into a guessing game that he seems smug to see take place. To think for a day it seemed like he might actually be humbled by something

i agree. i'm now leaning towards the theory that the expense might be something fairly mundane that he is making out to be a huge deal for sympathy. he is probably looking to downsize and needs to manufacture a really good reason that's "out of his control and has nothing to do with him" to pull it off while still getting tons of money from his fans. this "notice" probably had to be prefaced with so much drama about how miserable he is generally because it might not be a huge deal in and of itself.

Umm... what?
Even when we have concrete evidence, he still lies about it. .. because thats what he is.

Fallout4 - wedding, changing patreon goal... just from the top of my head.

I like slowbeef's description the most, Phil likes to play fast and loose with truth. Everyone here is well aware that he exaggerates and rewrites history as easily as breathing. He'll readily lie and twist to make himself look better or cover something up but as far as we know he's not yet quite exposed as the type that likes to invent really big fisherman style whoppers out of thin air to tell for no reason. Maybe he doesn't sink that far. Maybe he's not that creative. Thats kinda why I'm really interested to get to the bottom of the valedictorian business. We can finally catch DSP in a big unambiguous fabrication or we've found one of the dumbest schools on earth.

Regardless though, he doesn't deserve sympathy with this playing coy and shit act. Its like blabbing to your coworkers that there's been a death in the family and then playing a game where you have them guess between everyone from your tarantula and grandmother.

@grump said it better than I could but he's not going to say 'it's nothing to do with the IRS auditing me,' and then say a few days later 'I lied to you all and it is to do with the IRS auditing me.'

He might be a liar but as I said he's generally a cunning liar. It'd be a pretty big backtrack for him to say he was lying when he had absolutely zero need to

'it's nothing to do with the IRS auditing me,'

Another possibility is that he is not being audited, but has rather received a CP2000 notice, which is essentially a "here we fixed that for you, please pay us in the next 30 days." Since they don't pull the revised information out of thin air, they're generally right and you're screwed. I...um...know someone...who received such a notice, didn't pay in 30 days and boom, wages garnished on the next paycheck. If they can't do that, they'll come for your property.

More conjecture, but this would make Phil technically correct (when he says no one has speculated correctly) and would certainly shake him as badly as he appears to be.

Not doxing anyone. This is an example from the IRS site (https://www.irs.gov/pub/notices/cp2000_english.pdf). You'll notice that the SSN and zip are fake.

Sorry but he has a history of blatantly lying even in the face of stone cold evidence.

He might be a liar but as I said he's generally a cunning liar.

Since when? Phil is no politician. It's not hard to trick autistic people.

Hmm, from the latest prestream, something about the way he said 'it's something I've never talked about before' and 'I'm not ready to talk about it yet' suggests that the issue with the house might just be a consequence of some other personal issue going on with his life.

I'm willing to bet it's something to do with his parents or Leanna... somehow.
It's not like they got divorced, so she can't want half the house, so I don't know what it is...
Does he have to pay for his parents' healthcare? Maybe someone's suing him in a civil suit?

Whatever it is, I reckon its pretty personal and, judging from his reluctance to talk about it, shows him in a poor light (eg the Leanna breakup, the reasons for which he never really addressed).

How about something health related
"Guys... my gout is back..."

Whether he’s not lying or being evasive, one must admit Phil has consistently run into financial issues since moving to Seattle. Hell, since 2016 he has made it a monthly or quarterly thing to increase his uptick in e-begging especially timed with something in the background. He can ritualistically blame third parties all he wants, but when it comes to one’s personal finance you need to cut costs and remove externalities to get things under control. Oh, and his “if I move back to Connecticut, my bad health—because I have to shovel snow…” IS he kidding me!?

You'd think losing ~$1500.00/month in mortgage payments would allow him to hire a kid to do it for $10-20. How much snow removal are you responsible for in a condo anyway? Certainly the association takes care of common areas.

I reckon that he just likes the big house and the tax savings from writing off the office.

I can't think of a time where he said something definitely wasn't the case when it actually was. He lies often by bending the truth or skirting around it and sometimes he guarantees something that ends up not happening (certain game playthroughs, Project Seven) but I can't think of a situation that would be like this, if he is lying in saying this situation is nothing to do with an audit.

I'm not saying he is politician level of skill when it comes to being deceptive but he is quite cynical in his manipulation of his cult. Look at what he did just two days ago

Edit- I'm aware this is speculative but didn't people used to say that by common laws, Leanna would have the right to some of Phil's property and income since she lived with him for a certain amount of years? Could this issue be linked to Leanna seeking legal advice on the situation? It's a long shot but it's more likely than the whole pregnancy idea.

Right, and it just happened, so you wouldn't have received a notice about it that could potentially ruin your life. There wouldn't even have been time for someone to take his information and do anything with it.

The IRS thing makes the most sense. If you've been there, getting a letter that you're being audited is scary. You know even if you did nothing wrong that you've got a lot of work ahead of you to document everything---and this is Phil, so you wonder how shady his bookkeeping is, accountant or not (you have to give the accountant the right information to use, not hide income, etc.).
