Careercow Dan Harmon - Creator of Community, co-creator of Rick and Morty, and barely functional alcoholic

The only person supposed to be rick is Dan, except replace his comical exaggerated sociopathy with alcoholic autism and credit stealing

I'd be lying if I said this doesn't slightly ruin the show (for me). Now when Rick delivers lines I just hear Dan self-entitled ego seeping through. You'd think someone who has worked on shows this long would know to put distance between themselves and their characters. No one wants to watch someone's Mary Sue OC DONOTSTEAL, and if they do there's plenty of that for free online.

This thread is infuriating to read. I'm not a fan of Harmon's other works so I had no idea what a giant shit stain he was.

To me, the people who thought they "were Rick" or identified highly with Rick were missing the point of the show. No one is supposed to be Rick, because no real human would come close in capability or intelligence. But I guess I'm the exceptional individual here because Rick is just Harmon's shitty self insert and Harmon really DOES think the best parts of him are Rick. wow

Because of the Szechuan Sauce Trainwreck, I started watching "Rick & Morty" on Netflix. It's funny to watch, but nothing super extraordinary. Pop Culture References, Rick's raging alcoholism, Morty's dorkiness, more pop culture references, edgy humour. I find it entertaining but lack the intellectual insight to truly appreciate the show.

Okay, what really wonders me: Who the fuck wants to be like Rick? Raging about his superior intellect, while having to live with his daughter and her borderline re.tarded husband and kids? Being a semi functional alcoholic with vomit dripping off his mouth? Wow, sooo edgy. Being capable of building amazing science fiction shit, yet being such a gigantic social fuck up, that in the end it brings him nowhere, aside from doing drugs and extra terrestial hookers? It's funny to watch, but nothing anyone would or should aim for, as long as they are not raging autists.... Wait, I just found the answer why people over identity with Rick, the co-creator included. Nevermind.

Right on the mark. Many of these people live boring lives and feel like they should be able to enjoy things due to their "superior intellect", just like Rick can.

They don't think about the little but fulfilling things that life provides you when you are well adjusted and successful: the feeling of building up and protecting a family that you love, as well as the ability to do things the hard way and feeling the satisfaction and pride that results rather than just wishing that everything would appeal to their superior intellect to make things easy.

Being a normie sucks though, especially when you're an autist.

It's like people who sit around jobless and degreeless claiming they are smarter than everyone else. Ok then. Do something with your life other than watch a cartoons all day.

I didn't actually know anything about the creator until I saw this thread. I don't really pay attention to the staff of most shows. No idea he was like that. But then again I'm not surprised. The chances of a normal, well adjusted person co-creating Rick and Morty are pretty slim.

Wow that five-minute rant where he said that Ayaan Hirsi Ali getting her clit removed as a child was the funniest thing since The Producers was uncalled for.

Does he says that in the video? I watched a good 10 minutes from the moment you linked and didn't hear it.

Edit:

It is well known that despite his feminist charm, he is extremely abusive around women. He has done everything in his power to make this video of him making a woman cry in public go away. You won't believe the shocking degrading things he says to her. It is clear that everyone else in the room is stunned and can't believe what they are hearing. If you saw a man say these things on the street you'd want to tackle him.

Same here. I don't feel like listening to 90 minutes of Harmon.

It's pretty easy. Harmon keeps his shitty personality to a minimum around Erin because they're an item. They eventually decide to get married. Once that happens, Harmon begins to feel that he's already got his hooks into her so he no longer has to try. His usual personality begins to show. A few months into the marriage, their relationship begins to deteriorate, around the time the episode would be entering production.

It requires a lot of assumptions, but things DO line up reasonably well.

And it's not like that kind of thing never happens. Someone can be as sweet as can be while they're courting you, but once they feel that they're at a point where they've "got you," they start showing their true, ugly selves because they feel they can get away with it.

I was browsing some threads on Reddit regarding Harmon's behavior and found some comments about his relationship with Erin. Remember, these are fans of Dan Harmon who have consumed a lot of his content. They know what they're talking about.

Apparently the Harmontown podcast has a lot of juicy insight on Dan's psyche and his relationships with others. I keep hearing "Listening to Harmontown made me realize that Dan Harmon is actually a huge asshole" in the threads I've been reading. I'm not sure I feel up to digging through all of it, though.

I think he's just bitter because he wanted to make a silly show about talking dogs on a dog planet but people thought that was stupid so he just made a Back to the Future parody and the masses ate it up. I'd die a little inside too if all my efforts to be creative ended up with riding the coattails of a shitty 80s movie.

Surprise, surprise... Guys who tries to make himself look like the champion of Feminism turns out to be a misogynistic piece of shit.

Of the 31 episodes aired so far he only wrote four and the only character he voices is Birdperson, if that helps your enjoyment.
He is the de-facto showrunner and he rewrites all the scripts before they’re sent over to Canadians to be drawn. For instance, “Pickle Rick” is his stupid idea, even though the episode was officially written by one of his “shield maidens.”

You know, Dan, admitting that you're a sadistic sociopath doesn't absolve you from acting like a sadistic sociopath: in fact, it makes your behavior WORSE: a sadistic sociopath still has the willpower not to act on his urges and can intellectually understand why doing so is morally wrong, even if they don't feel any instinctual guilt.

Dan looks like the type of the guy you just know is probably hurting on the inside
So when news hits of his inevitable suicide, will it be okay to yell out, "Called it!"?

Shows in the U.S. tend to have “seasons”, typically a 12-24 episode block of a show before taking breaks ranging from half a year to a full year. The last episode of the season is called a “finale” as it’s the last episode for a whole, and will usually end with some kind of hook to make you want to tune in next season.
Or, if it's the end of the show (the series finale), then most, if not all, of the loose ends of the series will be tied up (or it will end with promises of some kind of spin-off or reboot in the future).

Just to properly illustrate the situation:

Somehow got married to this

And having a hot redhead wasn't enough for him so HE cheated on HER...

Was it one of those "I knocked her up, so I'm forced to marry her because she'll sue me for child support otherwise" type of marriages? Ah, probably not...

Definitely agree that Rick is these fans' "ultimate power fantasy character"

He's a genius, cruel, strong, a jerk with a heart of gold, and is always right.

In fact the only thing Rick is not, is that he isnt handsome. Although many fanarts depicts him as unconventional handsome.

Heck his alcoholism is regarded as cool and not a problem.

But theres something I notice about Rick that a lot of his fans seem to want to emulate.

Its the ability to one up people all the time. In the show Rick is never wrong. He's always right, and even if he isnt like in the pickle episode, then its mostly ignored by him.

He always gets the last word. And no matter how smart the enemy is, he somehow is able to beat them by being several steps ahead. Noone can seem to beat him.

Many of his fans wish that they can be smart enough to always beat their bullies, or have the last laugh or always be right. In reality, many of the fans are just nerdy guys who could barely say anything let alone fight someone with their smarts.

In the end, Rick is just a fan fantasy of being the coolest edgiest smartest character in the world.
