It doesn't matter what you say if you're clearly targeting "the enemy". NeoGAF constantly had "FUCK WHITE PEOPLE KILL EM ALL 1989" while you couldn't even reference the race of a person if it was, for example, a off-topic thread about a crime. "No bad tactics, only bad targets".
You'd probably still get branded as alt-right if it wasn't very explicitly against them.

Been reading through this whole thing over the past couple of hours, and I think the thing that blows my mind the most (and definitely not the only thing) is this:
EL makes a post bragging about actually sexually assault a girl in Spain in 2012, by grabbing her ass without consent. Nobody who you'd think would give a shit actually gives a shit. Mods help cover it up. Gaming press ignores it out of convenience because NeoGAF is such a good safe space/echo chamber.
Then, just recently, some random ass girl on Facebook makes a claim that he invited himself into a shower naked with her a long time ago. Which, while weird and creepy, does't rise to the same level of what he OPENLY CONFESSED to in Spain. Complete fucking dumpster fire ensues. Site dies.
I can't figure out whether they honestly believe that an accusation of something creepy is more proof of sexual assault than a FUCKING CONFESSION of an actual sexual assault (wouldn't exactly put it past SJWs), or they just never REALLY gave a shit to begin with, and the true sticking point is that it was revealed by this girl in a forum outside their control.
Maybe a little of both?

Hmm... Let's reflect on how one accusation of non-criminal sexual impropriety brought our whole site down in flames in less than a day... We obviously need a more stringent witch hunting work ethic going forward!

NeoGAF's always been an echo chamber, and a pretty goddamned brutal one, but over time, a shift has transpired. Where once everything was fine if you pushed the party line was acceptable, the Gaffots, having silenced all dissent, did the same thing their kind always does and inevitably, set their sites on their own. You can see a version of this with Social Justice circles where there's attempts to drag down different groups that are seen as insufficiently pure.
Towards the end of GAF's tenure, the shrieking harridans who were convinced it was the best website ever had successfully chased off everyone remotely sane. Arguing that people shouldn't be mass-harassed by GAF? You're banned. Being white and male and completely unapologetic for being white and male? That's a ban. Tangentially disagree with a moderator favorite about fucking anything? Oh baby, that's a banning.
This left only a population of the craziest motherfuckers.

I can't say for sure whether or not I'm shocked that this whole spectacular shitshow has taken up a huge chunk of this entire thread.
On the one hand, I just can't believe there are over 50 pages of us discussing NeoGAF burning to the ground. That's more than one-third of this thread.
But on the other hand, this sure is significant. Malka would have to pull a rabbit out of the hat to recover from this beautiful mess. This may just be for the Internet history books one day, ladies and gentlemen.
