That's just horrifying. And sad.

Jani needs to be alone without Susan constantly ripping hats off her head or asking her to repeat herself. The kid is past the point of recovery but she could still get a little peace mucking out a stall with nothing but nature sounds around.

Instead, she has her insane mother causing stress enough so the kid had to smack herself.

Her stimming has increased for some reason.

Stimming is a form of soothing when someone autistic is overwhelmed with sensory input. The more input, the more stimming. So I'm sure somewhere underneath all the drugs and mental disease, Jani's just like most young girls and is really excited about horses.

So "I'm excited" = Stimming on an increased level. The chest slapping is a new one though. Most of the time she just rubs her hands together quickly while tilting her head back and working her jaw.

Oddly enough, most of the psychiatric community agrees that stimming is a sign of Autism, not Schizophrenia.

psych meds cause dry mouth, which causes really nasty dental problem over time.

Why is that? I guess I could look it up. I know the dry mouth leading to dental decay and gum disease thing, I know that, but why do psych meds cause it?

I really hoped this could be a small good thing in Jani's life (yeah, yeah... I know) but after seeing that video.
That kid has been literally lobotomized chemically.
Whenever I get the gumption to click play on a new video, it's like she is worse than when I last saw her.

With her uncontrollable movements and Susans manic screeching, it is not safe for her to be around horses.

Why is that?

The production of saliva is normally controlled by the activation of either the sympathetic nervous system/SNS (decreases salivation) or the parasympathetic nervous system/PNS (increases salivation). Many psych meds interact with our nervous system and cause an inhibition of certain parts. Usually the sympathetic nervous system is affected, because the most psych meds are supposed the make the patient's mind more stable and even-tempered. The disadvantages: Many body functions that are controlled by the SNS are now inhibted, which causes a dry mouth, cardiac flutter, a lethargic gastrointestinal tract and the inability to get an orgasmus.

The longer you take certain meds the better the chances are that some of these effects will fade away. Unfortunately, it's not uncommon that a dry mouth accompanies you for a very long time.

People notice that Jani is effectively brain dead. Susan "READ MY BOOK!" Schofield claims that if we'd just read her book, we'd know that she used to be so much worse, and her autistic traits worsening are a clear sign that her schizo treatment is working, because she's able to be "just" autistic thanks to Susan. People have read her book; reading it has turned off some of her supporters, it seems. Oh, and Susan Schofield, MD has decreed that schizophrenia is known a "cancer of the brain". Wat.


People ask what's up with the new stim of hitting herself. Susan acknowledges that Jani is stimming, but not why she may have picked up a new one (increased stress.)

Susan is a dumb ass (:late: I know). People with properly controlled schizophrenia don't act like Jani. Most live pretty "normal" lives once getting the right treatment. So Jani deteriorating the way she is is not normal of the majority of schizophrenics, like she claims. Anyone with eyes can see the kid is overmedicated.

Also the whole hygiene thing - uncontrolled schizophrenics do have issues with hygiene and self care, but doesn't Susan claim Jani is "so much better now"? Then why is her ability to care for herself getting worse? Shit makes no sense.

Susan is severely manic. You'd think she would be able to recognise it in others, at least after the early twenties and having spent long stretches of time both medicated and non medicated. Jani can barely barely say a short sentence of two syllable words in under five minutes. Susan's conviction that Jani speaks too fast never ceases to bewilder. I swing between Susan having Munchausen By Proxy, which implies that she knows what she's doing, or being legitimately severely mentally ill and really is as bugfuck as she carries on.

Also, Cory. When he first appeared I was more than willing to take him at face value and that he really does care for both Susan and her children, and that he's simple naive and not quite there yet after a major break, making him susceptible to others that he thinks 'understand' him. All perfectly natural, although many people who've been fortunate enough to not have direct experience with severe mental illness might not understand why he doesn't have much by way of abstract thinking right now. But the longer he stays in the horror show, the more suspect he becomes.

In it, there is a small truth to what Cory and Susan insist about clozaril: in the smallest doses - under 111 mg / day - anti psychotics can seem to ward off the brain mass reduction that happens naturally over time with schizophrenia. However, in doses larger than this, the brain mass declines rapidly, more so than the disease causes alone. The higher the doses, the more pronounced the brain deterioration is.

Jani takes 300 mgs of clozaril plus 75 mg of thorazine. If counts lithium among the antipsychotics in this study - she takes 900 mg / day of lithium, so 1275 mg of anti psychotic meds total - Jani is in the "highest treatment level" group (taking over 900 mg combined of anti psychotics / day), with the highest brain deteriorating effects. Bodhi is already on 300 mg of thorazine per day, and I think when Susan last crowed about it, his clozaril was at 50-75 / day. So he's already in the mid-level treatment, per this study.

In the study, rhesus monkeys were given thorazine and clozaril, and within 27 months, they had lost 8-11% of their brain weight, most of it in the frontal lobe and prefrontal cortex (i.e. places that you use for reasoning.) That's loss without the addition of schizophrenia.

In short: Susan has melted Jani's brain, an autistic child who was once very vivacious and creative, if weird.

God. I think you've managed to explain Jani's rapid deterioration. Just lop off ten percent of the brain mass and that's what you end up with. I wish cases like this were easier to prosecute parents for. It seems like children's diagnosed mental illness is now a "get out of abuse allegations free" card for parents, even if the diagnosis required months or years of shopping around for.

Looks like he has had a long history of owing money....He did not show up in court for his speeding ticket which he was found guilty for. If he's a sex offender, he has to be on the registry; he lived in Seattle most of his life, so he'd be on the Washington state registry.

It looks like maybe a gambling issue, if he is always short money and changing jobs? He's super into sports, could be sports gambling. His kids are grown so it's unlikely to be liens for child support. EDIT: some dates are more than ten years old, these could very well be child support related. So Susan married a second deadbeat dad? My fucking sides.

Still, good finds. His spotty job record coincides with the start of the liens, so possibly an alcohol or drug issue? His skin is awful, like that of a long term alkie, or meth user. If Susan is indeed using meds to keep up her manic state, she's got prescribed amphetamines. The pill access alone could be a draw for him.

This may have already been touched on but I am new here and have been a following Jani's story since the Oprah episode aired way back in the day. One fact is there were zero doctors from UCLA or otherwise that would actually confirm her diagnosis of schizophrenia, knowing this it is clear why both Oprah and Dr. Phil distanced themselves after having the schofield's on one appearance of each of their shows. A little known fact is as a young child Jani was being pushed into acting and modeling. While I don't deny she has autism and other mental issues, it is clear her functioning is deteriorating beyond repair in just the past few months. How do the teachers and "professionals" around not see the abuse that is occurring?!

Here is an absolutely great blog that shows the downfall of Susan's talk show which was called "Bipolar Nation". Her and Michael actually worked for LA talk radio and would have a daily show basically slamming the mental health system. The start of their downfall and major money issues came after a series in which they accused a therapeutic boarding school called Diamond Ranch of severe abuse and even the murders of a few of their students. By the way, didn't Bodhi use to speak at least some earlier? I don't remember when or where, but I'm pretty sure I saw a video where he kept talking about cars and they said "oh he's psychotic, he's hallucinating" and so on but it was pretty obviously just an autistic boy talking about his special interest - cars.

The dosages these kids are on are literally "they'd be better off mentally handicapped the rest of their lives than their current state" level of treatment.

I find that hard to believe any doctor would find that morally acceptable to treat children like this.

Jani reminds me of Nancy Spungen. Now that's on a whole other note and also it was such a long time ago that the diagnosis would actually be schizophrenia even though we know better these days, but I see similarities. Do we know anything about Jani's birth? Like, was she oxygen deprived? Sorry if this has been mentioned before, I only skimmed through the thread really because it was 52 pages and it would've taken ages to really go through it and put thought into everything.

Both children were born without any difficulties. But Jani's biological father genitor said in his book that he was mad at baby Jani for crying. Although it's totally normal behaviour for an infant to cry regulary, he insisted on classifying this as one of the first signs of Jani's "abnormality".
