So he’s... pissed that his friend didn’t overwrite his save but could have? This gentleman is employed to review video games?

It's not about what actually happened, it's what possibly could have happened! It's this liminal state that these people thrive in, in lieu of anything concrete. It all ties back to the fleeting, worthless content that they have to push out every day.

wouldn't someone qualified to be a "games expert" know about the different modes of the game?

This is my first exposure to Polygon, so my impression of them so far is that they’re neurotic and have dumb friends.

Edit: actually the friend isn’t even dumb, he started a game in an empty save slot. Like this entire series of tweets should have been an internal thought process culminating in the realization that nothing happened.

You'd be right. They push out a dozen articles circling around the same controversies while conveniently ignoring any evidence that they or their cronies are committing the same crimes. Even if they have some shred of self-awareness, it's okay if they do it, since they are inherently superior to those poisoned by " toxic gamer culture."

They're pretty much the most stereotypically bad games review site, putting out psuedo-intellectual game thinkpieces like this Rock Band 4 "review", or this rambling bit of self-promotion initially disguised as being written by "Polygon Staff" before being called out and forced to admit it was written by Phil Owen. Occasionally a check from Microsoft will clear and they'll take a break from reviewing games based on whether or not they deem the main character too sexy to instead promote the latest Kinect game or write some article prophesizing doom for whatever Sony's been up to lately.

I find that rather baffling. I mean I fucking love BotW and I've put dozens of hours in it so I can understand the frustration if that save were to get wiped but it's not like all those great memories with the game become undone because I handed my console to some dipshit.

Wild that it's possible to overwrite saves.

How about you stop letting your dipshit friends play on your console? Once I deleted my brother's Super Mario 64 120 star save because I didn't understand what "erase" meant. I'm baffled how adults are friends with people as stupid as a 5 year old.
Or he can just set up a guest account and never worry about this shit again.

Can you imagine being friends with this guy? He lets you play around on his Switch, suddenly you're like "hey I think I did something wrong." He goes silent and is glued to his phone for the next 20 minutes, you can tell he's pissed and panicking but not attempting to do anything about it in real life. Then you look at his twitter and see this cluster.
