Playing through it, I'm noticing it could have used more mechanistically. Like in certain games, you can chain melee kills quickly when enemies are close. BJ in a super suit seems capable of that. Also, you're basically stuck in an animation while you do a close kill, allowing everyone to shoot you, while there's no real benefit except gore. You can kill enemies easy enough without it. No health gain or armor gain. The armor suit is a let down, and the pacing is really off. Because the game is 8-12 hours (because of this I recommend at least Terror Billy mode, to add to the challenge and life of the game. Also exploring enviornments), getting the good stuff half-way is a mistake. The super suit is also a huge disappointment, I imagined you leaping through the air, ripping Nazi hearts out left and right. Instead its 200 armor and a lame jump ability for the majority of the time. The weapon upgrade system is nice, with really useful upgrades. Armor piercing assault rifle rounds are amazing, and eventually just trivialize robots. Though it is easy to fuck up as some upgrades can hamper you if you use them wrong or don't find enough. Your options a lot of the time are just stealth or run and gun, though there are parts where you are forced to fight. I don't recommend running and gunning unless you know the layout, as the game has an annoying habit of spawning enemies where you already cleared to supplement for poor AI, and BJ gets killed rather easily.
More often than not the heavy weapons you pick up are fucking deathtraps there to tease you with burning Nazis to death and not recommended outside of few specific situations. Usually it goes: In a fire-fight, pick-up animation, find cover, charge up animation, find targets, shoot. All that time you're being shot at, and probably worse off than if you'd just used your normal weapons. Simply not worth it. Upgraded dual-wielded guns slice through everything, making heavy weapons redundant. I found them useful in one or two situations. It doesn't help that using them is satisfying, so you want to, but the benefit just isn't there, Especially when you run out of ammo and have to do the drop animation under fire. Trying to use these fucking things killed me so many times.
As far as the story, I thought it was good. You can't really have a Nazi game without racial politics and it establishes why BJ really fucking hates Nazis and will continue to kill them after his body is falling apart. He's not like Max Payne in that he feels sorry for himself, he accepts his fate and does as much as he can with what time he has left. Kinda the opposite of Payne. I really enjoyed the story, but you have to consider its pure pulp with Nazi moonbases. It really has nothing to do with modern politics except 'Nazis currently exist in a shitty form'. That was all the advertising. The 'SJW' aspects are really just reflections of the 1960s: Black Panthers, psychedelics, racial tension, under an alternate history enviornment. The atmosphere is pulp and over the top, with Nazis saying 'Bro, we are the best, I love you' just before you give them an axe to the back of the head or a shotgun blast to the face.
But the game itself is a weird animal, price wise. It doesn't feel like it should be $60. But it doesn't feel like a $40 game either. Its one of those weird, in-between ones ones where 45-50 is a good price for what you get. In the end, it suffers from bad pacing in terms of gameplay, with the game needing more mechanics than simply perks and upgrades, and it doles them out too late. Most of that should have been in the beginning, giving you plenty of time to use what you had. Part of me regrets buying it full price, but I'm honestly liking it, despite its flaws. The gore is fun, and murdering Nazis is a true American past-time. I recommend picking it up for $45, not full price. You should be easily able to find it there at that price.
For PC, I didn't notice any problems but I have an enthusiast machine: GTX 1080 with an i7-6700K and 16GB Ram. It loads faster than the New Order and looks pretty. So you can't really go by me if you are looking for technical issues. I did encounter some bugs: pressing ` brings up the console and reveals your mouse cursor, which you can't get rid of unless you quit. I was cycling through dual-weilding one time and one of BJs hands was stuck holding an invisible gun that didn't fire or go away. I had to reload to fix. And the Steam overlay actually crashes my game. When I alt-tab, my graphics card gives off annoying coil whine but it goes away when full screen. I have heard of other people having major issues, so if you do buy it, make sure you can get a refund if it doesn't work on your machine.
