It's kind of amazing to me that he would lavish such praise on it when, until
Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, it was clearly and by popular opinion (including my own, my avatar notwithstanding) the least of the three
Indiana Jones films. The racial silliness isn't even the real problem; the real problem is Kate Capshaw's Screaming Mimi and Short Round, who (his own racial baggage aside) is an incredibly irritating, "let's make a kid-friendly sidekick!" bit of pandering. :powerlevel: I was practically raised on
Raiders of the Lost Ark, which I watched repeatedly on a SelectaVision (and you thought
Bob was a hipster!) and which copy included a trailer for
Temple of Doom. I looked forward to this movie for, I dunno, 2 years? Some stretch of time that seemed unimaginably long for a 6 to 8 year old. And when
Temple of Doom came out ... I was horrifically disappointed. It was my first encounter with a sequel that was a letdown. I'm a good bit more forgiving of it nowadays. :powerlevel:
But my own powerleveling isn't the point! The point is Bob's ignorance of the medium he claims expertise in. So answer me this: how does he get through praising
Temple of Doom despite its "problematic" nature, and not once mention the obvious,
obvious debt it owes to
Gunga Din?
