Getting back to that index we were talking about the other day:
I've decided to put one together, and I've DM'd with threadstarter Crying RN to see how best I should go about it. I did a sample of the first ten pages, but including direct quotes from Russ and a few editorial comments of my own, it's already ridiculously long and more than a little
, and there's still 500+ pages to sort through! Not that I mind doing it, because I volunteered, but a summary of a long thread that's TL-DR in itself would be pointless.
I'm also thinking in terms of a possible influx of TS fans coming to this site, now that Russ is making his presence known on her Facebook page. As we've seen in a few screenshots, some of them are doing Internet searches on him, and of course, this is one of the first search results. This site is out of TS' main demographic (teens and pre-teens), but you never know who might join up anyway, and if a few of them join and don't know the facts or have the patience to find them, it could be a mess. OTOH, they might just look around and give up - regular FB users don't have the attention span for full paragraphs and punctuation 'n shit. Anything longer than two sentences is called a "wall of text" by people who are used to pithy comments on FB. They may look around at this thread, get the general idea of what sort of person Russ is, then split. Or a few may join and want to participate but not know how to go about it. But whether they stay or not, a simple concise summary in the opening post would help them, and would also make it easier for us to cross-reference things we've already read but don't want to sort through 500 pages to find again. This thread may be book-length, but the index - table of contents, actually - doesn't need to be. There are many ways to go about this, and I just want to do the one that is most effective.
Cryin RN suggested that my more extensive summation would be ideal for an ED page. That sounds like a worthy endeavor, but another place and time. (At the rate it took me to analyze the first ten pages, this project could take a couple months!) For now, I'll keep my own note-taking down to a minimum and concentrate on a basic table of contents for this thread, and should have something ready in a day or three. If anyone wants to do an ED page, I'll be glad to go through this thread and make extensive notes, which you can use or not use according to your discretion. DM me if interested.
