So THAT is what happened? I almost thought Haruko Ichihara was into actual and real CP (like Watsuki) or something, but it turns out she merely made ~problematic~ mangas before hitting it big time with HnK.

A tad fftopic: but still relevant, I think: After reading the article, I'm not under the impression that Ichikawa is even presenting these situations in her stories as ideal or "something she's into;" but that gets lost on this writer. And she's looking way too deep into the body horror aspects.

These people pick and choose some strange fights; "calling out" a mangaka's darker works while giving a pass to misshapen fetishy pandering disguised as diversity.

When I looked at these the incestuous/rape bits seem to be written more from a young sexual abuse survivor's POV than a creepy fetishist's POV.

Personally I have no problems with humanized characters that have purple/blue skin/fur being depicted with shades of brown, since those seem to translate well into eachother to me. Yay for mandatory learning of color theory in grade school.

Why do people draw the characters with skin colors similar to their hair a la Steven Universe? The characters in HnK look like they have human skin colors. I mean... geez can you guys at least try to hide the fact that you're refugees from the Steven Universe fandom?

Yeah. They know that rocking the boat by giving a character some outlandishly "diverse" trait is a great way to claim moral superiority over a lot of people. Yeah, Tumblr doesn't seem to understand that fiction is, well, fiction. Just because an artist or writer depicts something doesn't mean they personally condone it.

A few years ago someone sent me a sermon on how Anne Rice is a pedophile because of Marius and Armand's relationship. Like, nevermind that it's a piece of fiction, or that it's true to history for a master artist to be sexually involved with an apprentice, or that Rice writes about cannibalism and no one accuses her of being a cannibal. Nope, she must be a pedophile.

Then this person went on to argue that Rice was a homophobe because she "fetishized" same sex relationships. Even though Rice is so supportive of her gay son that she actually abandoned Catholicism for his sake, and is considered by many Gen Xers to be a gay icon.
