True enough.
Thing is, it's actually pretty easy to escape the Star Trek pigeonholing, plenty of other crewmembers have done it. They do it by the simple fact of moving behind the camera instead. More Star Trek alums are working as directors now than there are still working as actors. If Wheaton hadn't burned his bridges and thrown his tantrums, and instead tried what the others did of working things out with the creative staff and gradually learning the director's trade, he'd probably be directing TV episodes now instead of abusing models behind the scenes of Suicide Girls shoots.
Of course I guess with recent revelations about the film industry there might not be much difference.
