If this is real, this is the best sims mod ever.

It is real. Awesomemod is actually a legitimately great mod for the game and the creator is a bit of a troll as well, putting this option in to troll the pedos who are rampant in the fanbase. It actually adds a Sex Offender trait to your sim that has Pedobear as the icon.

The creator also ran a site that would host paid mod downloads for free which really pissed a lot of people off. I think an important thing to note is that The Sims community has always had people charging for mods, all the way back to the 90s and this was really unique to them.

Whenever I think of Sims mods I think of that time ParkourDude91 streamed them with over the top reactions to them.

The Sims isn't the only game to have people charging for mods. Microsoft Flight Simulator is even more famous for having a third party paid mod community, offering everything to detailed aircraft to scenery based on real places. Back in the day when retail PC games were still a thing you could walk into your local Micro Center and find CDs with aircraft, scenery, and more on them for Flight Simulator. The difference is, FSX (along with X-Plane and the "Pro version" of FSX: Prepar3D) can be used as a training tool for airplane pilots, which is why they continue to sell well.

Also lately with all the game engine makers offering free/low cost engine use to small indie devs, I've been seeing a lot more game devs making standalone games that cost money instead of trying to mod existing games.

Another source of drama is SimSecret, a LJ community where people bitch about each other every Friday on anon.

Here's someone so butthurt over the insane and bro traits they they made a mod to change them.
Holy hell, the SimSecret place is is an absolute goldmine. 5 minutes clicking through it and there's just so much stuff.

Also, have thread, which is Sims 3 (sorry!) but I think the slapfight about black representation is worth it: https://forums.thesims.com/en_us/discussion/625978/no-love-for-black-people

God, and to think the biggest drama back when I was playing the Sims 1 was all the whiny little brats demanding things on The Sims Resource and not saying thank you.
How are these pedo mod websites NOT shut down -- wouldn't that count as child porn?

(I used to kill my Sims in order to create haunted houses.)

Oh shit, the Sims modding community! I used to be a huge Sims sperg, so I was looking for some mods to spruce it up. I am not sure how it is right now, but I remember there being tons, and I mean TONS of skimpy outfits. The best part? They were specifically made for teenagers. :'( The Sims community is fucking weird.

Ooooh boy, I'm quite a fan of sims myself, so I occasionally lurk for some mods. It's just dumb dresses and furniture though, so I wasn't aware of pedo and fetish mods.
Still, the tumblr part (tumblr is good place to find custom clothes and such) is kinda lulzy on itself.
See, you all know that tumblr has... errr, unusual beauty standards, so to say. Some of their sims make tumblirina SJWs characters look like Renaissance paintings in compression.
