It's not anything to lose your shit over. On a good connection you probably can't tell, but if the connection isn't that great, you learn to manage. DSP is the only person I've ever seen REEEEEE out so constantly about it. He's a child.
Within reason. :powerlevel:, but I recently moved and had to switch to a wireless connection; and I routinely get lag spikes that cause WoW and fighting games like DBFZ to either freeze or drop inputs for a moment or so. Being someone who knows exactly what lag looks like from recent memory, I don’t see anything at all like what I’m experiencing. He just has the reflexes of a manatee.

Flowchart quotes for

FORMER PRO FIGHTING GAME PLAYER

Phillip "Im Blahking" Burnell

Losing against CPU:
"They read my input it's cheating doooood"

Winning against CPU:
"I just won against this cheating motherfucker and nobody cheered or tipped?"

Losing against lesser skilled online player:
"Dood did you see that? He has no footsies and just mashing buttons but because this game lags like shit my reversal didn't come out and I lost, fuck You, no seriously, fuck you"

Losing against same skilled player online:
"Kahhhhhman! Look guys (show controller), I never let go of blahk! I'e never seen this character before, but I was holding back! Then he did something, I didn't do nothing, but somehow he still hits me and gets a full kahnbo, that' fair! Fuck This game so delayed!"

Losing against more skilled player online:
"Look at this guy?? Woooow doooood! He already played 46383638 matches? He must have played non stop since launch! This guy must not even have a job and a girlfriend and playing in his mom' basement! Of course he wins, i just started playing And I have a full time begging job at home! I'm just trying this new character to entertain you guys on stream and he came in and landed that 58 hit kahnmbo on me, great game!" (Show middle finger to camera)

Losing to players offline:
"Well I'm still.. .. I was the best super turbo player on that year for placing 4th in evo...."

Losing money match:
"I need tho....i need that money I really do, I need that money, to pay mah bills...."

Hahaha are you just now following this dude? Scrooge McDuck would tell this dude to dial it back and stop being such a blatant piece of shit.
unfortunately im not. also for 600 subs he'll apparently do a cooking show with his girlfriend which struck me as particularly gross and cynical considering all the recent drama. i'd probably just mention her as little as possible and definitely not involve her in a stream but i guess im mentally ill

This one is better left as N/A because this would imply that Phil would interact with another human face-to-face.

Has anyone ever found events or tournaments won by DSP? He allways says "you can look it up, it's on the Internet", you'd think a guy with that much insecurity and ego would have that plastered all over his room.

He won EVO East 2006 in Hyper Street Fighter 2. That's probably his biggest win. I'm sure he won some local tournaments in various iterations of SF2 and maybe SF3 courtesy of lesser local players.

This game runs a pretty darn accurate simulation of what Phil will be like with a real job I'd say

=)

It’s also bears repeating that there’s pretty much nothing past SF4 coming out. Before that, interest in fighting games was pretty much at its lowest; so the competition wouldn’t have been anywhere close to as strong as it is now.

Yep, its one thing to be a pro at one or two games in the olden days where you're just playing against a handful of selfselected arcade nerds. its quite another to be a pro with the internet opening up a whole world of competition and multiple games. Not to take away from some of the old guys skills. They're good and some have continued to prove themselves in the expanded landscape. Now that Phil's actual skill level as a 'pro fighting game player' is now being more fairly tested, its quite a nasty shock to find out he may be just above average at the thing he built his entire identity around.

I don't think he put much thought into putting himself in the game.

Aren't fighters at 35 thinking about retiring at that age?

According to Shoryuken forums he participated in a range of smaller tournaments and won some and lost some. There's not really any agreement on there whether he was particularly skilled or not and as long as a decade ago people plain didn't like him at all and said he was shit.

He also did quite a few matches for money, he supposedly lost like a few in a single day.

Phil had a miserable time with ufc 2 wtf is he talking about. He rage quit after tapping out.

Edit:

I don't think he put much thought into putting himself in the game.

35 is retirement age for sure. If he picked a fighter age that old the game probably aged him out since after 5-6 fights he'd be pushing 38-40.

Someone on Twitter pointed out that after getting his ass handed to him, Phil went on a break, came back, and mysteriously started doing much better.

...Almost like he changed the difficulty from normal to easy. But he would never do something like that and not mention it, right?
