Almost every other democracy on the planet operates their immigration process meritocratically as well, but when Trump stated that's what he wanted at the state of the union left wingers went ballistic.

Doing things based on what every other country in the world does is their defense when they want it done, but when they want us to do something different- like open the immigration floodgates- they conveniently ignore the rest of the world because it would be un-American.

It always puzzled me that the regular US citizens have a major appreciation for the US military, but never had a single big parade during Memorial Day, or even just a general appreciation point and parade for people to be able to watch on TV from the Nation's Capital.

Heck, the UK has both the Remembrance Sunday procession down Whitehall and the Trooping of the colour, which usually has a military procession from Buckingham Palace to the Horse Guards Parade Grounds via The Mall. Never mind the world famous (and globally minded) Edinburgh Tattoo, which includes combined military marches down through the streets of Edinburgh several times a day.

Even on top of all that we've got Armed Forces Day (has been going since 2008 ) who's main site and parade rotates every year, with the Picturesque Seaside town of Llandudno having the honour of the official parade this year.

I think New Zealand and Australia also have a military parade too.

All the Pentagon needs to do is plan the parade for Memorial Day or Veterans Day. Focus the parade on veterans with a few pieces of heavy artillery thrown in to appease those on the Right who are eager to jack off to seeing large armaments. That way, the emphasis is on the soldier, rather than the weaponry, thereby avoiding the "look at all the big weapons we have" authoritarian state vibe.

As for the idiots on the Left who can't handle the fact that an armed force is necessary for a nation to protect its sovereignty, fuck 'em.

No tanks, but there are troop carriers, an old ambulance from WWI, and a bunch of Jeeps, along with people dressed in WWI uniforms, and recently WWII uniforms, along with every veteran in the area who wants to be in it. There used to be a group that wheeled an old Civil War cannon along the parade route and would fire blanks from it every so often, but I think the guys got too old to keep doing it.

Seems strange that with the Smithsonian there they don’t use some of the vehicles in a parade.

That would be a great idea. The US doesn't need a parade to boast about its military strength and superiority. It's apparent. But celebrating the rich military history of your country? That would be an amazing parade to watch, even for a foreigner like me.
