Diseased #Comicsgate - The Culture Wars Hit The Funny Books!

There was a flip-side of this some months ago of a blacklist of internet artists made by some furry and it exploded right on their face. No matter your political position or intentions, "you are not allowed to like these creators" lists are always exceptional. Callouts in general are stupid, unless the artist is a scammer or has actual history of predatory behaviors.

As much as most of the people on this list are assholes, if any of them somehow burst out of their shell of shittiness and created something good, I'd give it a look.

#movetheneedle is a nice idea but I don't see it working. Comics industry is in the shitter but I'm not convinced DnC has the reach to significantly swing sales. And even if he does succeed, I imagine the artists will just go crying to the media that there's a racist/sexist/homophobic conspiracy against them to generate some good PR for their useless asses and Marvel will stand by their artists even as they continue to piss away their money.

Honestly from what I've seen a lot of comic "journalists" are just craving for an actual #Comicgate to happen in the same vein as #Gamergate for at least a few years now because a comics scandal getting half the attention of a video game scandal would be a net positive for people who's job or is to write clickbait for an increasingly irrelevant medium. I

At this point, a reasoned rational look at why the medium became such a mess would be more clickbaity (is that a word?) by virtue of not being the approved hive-mind narrative of it being the fault of racist/sexist geeks again.

So few people actually buy comics that it'll probably be just a blip.

Everybody, on every side of this, would be yelling for the blood of an author who laid out the real reasons why American comics culture is such a mess, and has been for years.

They already fired most of them when their titles often couldn't break 10k in sales even for first issues.

It's a blip in movie terms but if it's all you do, that's your job.

I could see Disney just abolishing it entirely and moving the IP to a more competent company. They've had no problem in the past bringing out the long knives when it's time.

They have no real connections with Marvel other than the fact that they own it. Disney's taken its comic book business to other companies. If things get bad for them it'll really get bad.

It's really just an IP farm to them at this point. An appendage to be shed if it even attracts their attention enough to be annoyed by it.

in commercials, silence gets people's attention more than anything else. is it the same situation here?

We need to do something. Even if its just 30k worth of people who watch D&C supporting good comic creators and shunning the shitty ones. It's still something. My pull list is entirely DC at the moment and full of writers and artists that seem like decent people who just want to write good comics. DC is doing well because of it I suspect.

I don't think it's a surprise that most of these asshole SJW comic creators ALL either work for Marvel or are indie IDW types. They really need to clean up their act, drop more of these useless ideologues or people really will just abandon them all together.
There's a reason for that which EvS kinda confirmed. The TL;DR is while DC doesn't have many formal rules about social media, they do make their employees decide if their accounts are going to be used for promotion or remain personal. They don't want both. Meanwhile Marvel as run by it's last 2 EiCs believed strongly in the concept that bad publicity is a myth. You might remember the Tom Brevoort posts admitting that. Anyone can tell you the natural conclusion of cultivating that.

#MoveTheNeedle is PR for us more than anything else. I don't think anybody is actually trying to convince the SJW creators, who have explicitly said they don't want us buying their books. This is for those on the fence, and people in positions of authority like C.B. Cebulski. It's not like we can actually calculate how much we all spend and present hard numbers (just like SJWs can't give hard numbers for their "online sales"), but it's still presenting something, showing that we are genuine customers with money to spend.
