I can see why Dev feels like he has to work on the club leaders and members, but they’re actually pretty low priority; If Dev wants to have a working demo, he seriously could just use temporary things, such as the placeholder leaders, while he later works on making a proper game.

You could consider all of his sandboxes a demo, but the issue with calling it a demo is that there is no way to win the demo. A demo is "a demonstration of a product or technique", but in game lingo it’s basically "a demonstration of how a working game will be".
That’s all it is: a demonstration. He could of had this game released in demo ages ago if he just put in Osana.

Edit (just an add on): Hell, demos don’t have to be exactly perfect. For example, Subnautica had missing textures when it was in early access, but the game actually functioned and did what it was supposed to do: simulate trying to survive on an alien water planet. YanSim doesn’t meet this because the game’s purpose isn’t there; the purpose is to get rid of rivals, and we don’t even have the first one yet in 3~4 years.
Yeah, I see it too. However, he said before that the school is also a Placeholder™ and he will change it to one that has the possibility of having randomized clubrooms, and that the game will even include a map editor if I remember right.

I know, I'm being :optimistic: if I say that he will implement this in less than five years, but did he scrap that idea too? Does he think the school is way too "iconic" like the names and models? At least those are easier to change, but if he really wants to update the school he would have to recreate the clubrooms individually one by one adding the props again from scratch... And the school isn't even nice-looking, he basically just adds more and more pretty kawaii desu decorations to it. Also windows are still opaque lol

Adding onto myself again because I forgot something:

“Early access
, also known as early funding, alpha-access, or paid-alpha, is a funding model in the video game industry by which consumers can pay for a game in the various development cycles (pre-alpha, alpha, beta) and obtain access to the pre-full release versions of the game, while the developer is able to use those funds to continue work on the game. Those that pay to participate typically help to debug the game, provide feedback and suggestions, and may have access to special materials in the game. The early-access approach is a common way to obtain funding for indie games, and may also be used along with other funding mechanisms, including crowdfunding.”
“Early access to a game is typically offered when the game is in a playable state but may not be feature-complete, or may still have several software bugs to be found. Often these games are considered at alpha or beta releases, and may be months or years from anticipated completion. Interested players are able to buy into the development of the game, gaining access to the software in the working state, and are encouraged to play and stress-test the software. Their feedback can help the developer tune the game's direction, art, and software mechanics in anticipation of a final release.”

•Playable
•May not be feature-complete
•May still have “several” bugs
•May be months or years from anticipated completion.

Eva’s “Debug Builds” technically meet Early Access standards, except for the fact that it’s not truly “playable” considering the fact it doesn’t meet the criteria of “purpose”. Plus, it’s been 3~4 years and we still haven’t even seen a proper demo.

I’m pretty sure I heard he doesn’t want to change ayano’s hair because it’s “too iconic”, but I honestly think he’s just an :optimistic: perfectionist who doesn’t want to change anything because it’s “in his vision”.

(Probably :offtopic:) Alex gave us a little info on the next build.

So we’re expecting it today? At least today for PST.

Funny that you mention Subnautica since it also uses unity for its engine and was announced only 4 months before YS. The only advantage Unknown Worlds has is that they’re an actual team of people, but Alex relies on volunteers so much that you can pretty much say at this point that YS’s development isn’t just done by him alone.
Despite the similar starting points and tools, YS can’t even hold a candle to Subnautica both in programming and gameplay. It’s an apt comparison that neatly highlights just how poorly managed YS is.

While it would be realistic to have the blood dry up and become more brown and dark as time goes on, I’m not sure if any gore-based game has ever implemented something like that in their games before.

Not a gore-based game but

Mystery/detective games does that too but DDLC is pretty prominent for the time being. Also, blood turns yellow when in water in great amounts, which will fail the "blood is paint" excuse if the art club mostly uses water for painting, since that will ring some bells in the students.

Sorry if I'm late, this thread is 2 fast.

Honestly, I feel vaguely better about these naming conventions because at least he's using actual Japanese words instead of just Japanizing stupid shit like "Puresu Horuda". It's still shit, but it's a small step up. It's puzzling why he won't just check some name directories as that's easier. He must feel clever, I guess?

Adding 子 (ko, meaning child) at the end of feminine first names aren't that far fetched, because for a while, that used to be an extremely popular naming convention. If you look at the names of women born in the 80's maybe 90's, but that's sort of pushing it, and go back, names ending in 子 is common. I can see there being a female character called Hoshiko in some dumbass anime, though not irl.

With that said, it's not very popular in recent years and is thought of as being uncool. Too old school, I suppose. Though other feminine end characters are still in use, I guess.

I actually like the whole being in art club gives you a pass on being bloody thing because that's some Super Mario tier goofy game logic. It's hilarious, really. I understand that it totally clashes with the edgy mood Eva is trying to create, though. It would be so much easier for him if he would just embrace the memes/quirkiness. You can pull all sorts of weird shit out of your ass without being questioned. Though I have a feeling that the game would just get more pervy with some idiot upbeat harem anime logic thrown in.

Video resume:
  • You can now decorate the cork board with red strings
  • He added more props.
  • He changed the animation of Yandere-chan being near Senpai.
  • He added a new fragile personality that functions like a mindslave if you bully the student enough.
  • New body pillows that cost 39.99$.
Meaningful progress made:

What a lazy build. So he re-added the cork board, furnished the art room and added the club leader, and copy-pasted the mind slave stuff, edited it slightly, and it's supposed to make the game more fun or immersive or something idfk. How long did this one take to do? Shouldn't this take like... 3 days of work?

-Connecting pictures together

That's not a "yandere thing" alex. My first thought was assuming was an easter egg about that meme.

-Ayano being "creepy" near senpai

That's not creepy, it looks more like Ayano is having an orgasm and can't contain it.

-art club

Useless filler, not progress.

-Art club leader is "peculiar", he might defy your expections, please read his bio on the website

Do yo even read what you write Alex? Why do you tease something and then tell me to read his personality online? His profile says he is everything or MAYBE isn't, its garbage. "Oh hi. We paint. We sculpt. We craft. How nice." I had zero expectations and you still made him look painfully boring to me.

-More events, like students talking anime

How the fuck is this progress? And why are 2 GUYS having an autistically long conversation about generic magical girl anime? Is this how Alex talks online...?

-New persona: Fragile students breakdown when bullying reaches max level and they kill people

What the fuck??? Being depressed by bullying doesn't make your "fragile", it makes you HUMAN. it's not a game mechanic that when you reach a certain meter you're ready to murder, it can happen to everyone. There are some fucked up implications here.

-Improvements not worth mentioning

Then they're surely not worth saying in the first place.

-LITERALLY SELLING BODYPILLOWS

Ah yes, exactly what this game needed to fix it's hentai game reputation, official fuck pillows. Congratulations.

You know, I wasn't much into anime for the longest time (I still only watch a select few), but this game initially looked promising. An anime schoolgirl Agent 47. That would have been kickass... But we didn't get that at all. Hell, I didn't even know of the drama that surrounded this game until I stumbled onto this thread today. Jesus.

i think the reason why people are so angry at him here is because of this reason
