So if he did get suspended for soliciting bits and such for financial reasons, will we start seeing him slowly phase out saying anything about taxes, bills, etc?
He can't. He has to mention hardships of some kind if he wants the paypigs to continue paying him.

I predict that we will get an "informal fundraiser", which definitely won't be as successful for the following reasons:

1) Phil clearly underestimated Vidar's financial support, and the biggest evidence is the subs count falling off a cliff, with Phil scratching his head as to why that is.

2) He lost Jezal, IIRC, Jezal abd Vidar were a big reason why the previous fundraiser was successful, having whales start off emboldens the smaller customers to donate what they can.

3) The atmosphere is going to be very different now for a variety of reasons, the tax thing isn't new anymore, and he may have to be FakeSydePhil for a couple of days, meaning he can't sweettalk as freely, and it's not Christmas.

Now don't get me wrong, he will make money, but it won't be as much as last time..

Regardless, I look forward to not only following his prestream, but also seeing people get butthurt when he makes some money this week lol.

I imagine Phil 'running' through the house trying to find all the receipts from the food he ate for his DSP reviews fast food vids, because I doubt he's smart enough to keep all of his receipts, transaction records, etc. filed in one place.

Quick question, my Yankee friends. Does the IRS have a list of certified software packages you can use to e-file your taxes? I know the CRA up here in Soviet Canadya does, and I can't imagine it would take 5+ hours to finish your taxes if you're using one of those packages.
The reason I suspect he wasn't actually doing his taxes is because he is far too responsive on a variety of sites, I can understand a Twitter reply from his phone every couple of hours, but as Neger showed us, he is heavily and constantly refreshing his forums to search for wrongthink.

give a nice long story about how he managed to get together enough money for his fundraiser already.

I think that would be extremely telling. I wonder if Twitch even gave him advice on how to continue doing what he's doing, but do it "within the rules". E.g., "don't call it a 'fundraiser' call it something else", "don't refer to cheers as a monetary value", "don't tell viewers cheers are going to pay specific bills/taxes", etc.

I'm leaning towards the fundraising language specifically rather than suggesting giving dollar amounts for bits, since it's specifically the fundraising language that's now missing from the schedule. What I'm now curious about is if he was able to appeal the strike.

It may be a bit of both because he did stuff like say he raised "thousands" and that kind of language. By doing a fundraiser and saying Bits are part of that fundraiser you're also implicitly using those bits in relation to "real world" money (i.e. paying taxes).

Twitch/Amazon don't want you to be thinking you're actually sending money because that attaches not only legal issues with the usage of bits but also gives a connotation to users that they're actually spending money.

So if you say you want to buy something in the real world with the proceeds of bits and ask for them to buy that thing, you're giving people the impression that this "imaginary money" has real-world value:

https://www.twitch.tv/p/legal/terms-of-sale/

The simple interpretation of it is that using them for "financial support" is against the rules, but using them in any capacity to relate to "real world" money or provide any tangible "value" is something Amazon and Twitch do not want users to do.

Its a bit similar to the current issues around lootbox gambling. Once you start a "market" and your "videogame money" becomes "real world money" you will get anally probed by every government in every country on earth. Its simply not something that is possible to do (at least not for Amazon to do)

So:
  • You can't ask for Bits for financial support
  • You can't directly give bits a financial value
  • You can't (after the fact) say that the bits you received helped to pay for something
  • You can't provide any form of value for bits received in the form of "content" besides reading people's messages.

I can't wait to see Phil's new roundabout ways to tell people that he REALLY REALLY needs a bunch of money for muh taxes, trying to not step on Twitch's toes.

All he really has to do is do a marathon and put up the money counters on screen like every other streamer. It's not hard, but then again he's not very smart.

I think he could probably even call it the "tax marathon" and not be so specific about financial figures or what the usage is, but if Twitch got an erection over his channel it would probably do him more harm than good.

It seems he probably got a warning at some stage over this shit at least 2 months ago (which is why his emoticons wouldn't instant approve) he ignored it and decided that because nothing happened over the weeks that passed that he was effectively immune from moderation and then went into ultra-super-hardcore-autistic begging mode and that's when they suspended him.

"Only 2 days left to pledge to my February Patreon drive and get in on this month's perks!"

Just realized that's him trying to retcon that his fundraiser was just for Patreon pledges.
what fucking "perks"?

If its related to that its one of two things:
  • Attaching a financial value to bits/cheers (tips do not apply). You're not allowed to call a 100 bit cheer a 1 dollar cheer or give it a clear monetary value
  • His constant begging got him the suspension
If it was the begging, then dollars to donuts he's gonna give a nice long story about how he managed to get together enough money for his fundraiser already.
It has to be. He got nipped for the same shit when he begged for clicks on YouTube back in the gay.

He thinks his viewers are his parents. They will keep funding his man-child lifestyle of complaining about being "ripped off" by smarter people.

"Be less specific" - It's Phil we are talking about.

Depends on why he got this one. If it's for something like bits, he can just not do whatever specific thing pissed them off.

If it's about shit-talking people and being an asshole, though, he's going to eat a perma at some point because he can't stop doing that.

It's also pretty likely people will be emboldened to report him, too.

I'd love to see him in the situation of having two strikes and knowing he's hanging by his fingernails, and then watch people deliberately poke him to get him to flip out so they can report him.

it's naughty....but i like it :)))

If so, for a little while, he'll go back to doing it by the book. But it won't get him as much money as previously, partly because of that and partly because of losing a couple whales. Then he'll get increasingly desperate and start getting "sneaky" in his stupid way, i.e. I'm not asking you to gimme money but gimme money.

Before too long he'll just be back to outright flouting the rule.

this is why every single message he has written in the past few hours has TAXES as the main theme....because he knows he cannot mention it on stream anymore...he is SEARING IT INTO HIS PAYPIGS BRAINS.

DSP has confirmed he got a one-day suspension:

he's not bragging about the suspension being bullshit or getting the strike appealed so i think it's safe to say that he got a legit strike, was legitimately suspended, and will correct his behavior as a result---at least temporarily. I believe that his compulsion to e-beg and air out his dirty laundry publicly will prevail in the long run. (just look at how quickly the next beg-a-thon was scheduled after the previous one. he's hurting and he needs to manufacture "drives" to rile up his pigs, but he cant do that anymore.)

it will be interesting to see how his begging style will change.

I love it; Twitch slammed him rightfully for his begathons and now he'll likely have to shift back to Paymetons or Paypal as a source of panhandling or find some clever wording to avoid getting shellacked again.
The whack-a-mole game between Phil, his trolls* and the streaming platforms is half the fun of watching DSP. The reason last year was so boring was because things were too stable. Things are far more interesting with DSP the more chaotic the DSPsphere gets, which it is right now, it's basically a free market for DSP commentary, parodies, trolling..etc.

* Though I am getting more inclined to call them his weens. Their actions would be perceived as weening if it we're any other cow.

But the thing is, Phil gets funnier as a cow when he is being actively impeded from putting out his regular kahntent (which is incredibly boring when he is merely going through the motions), compared to say, Chris, where our best interests would be to keep him streaming as he would normally do with minimal intervention.

Obviously, that doesn't extend to doing Phil harm, like Swatting or the like, so keep your inner A-Log on a leash.

And speaking of Chris, I firmly believe if he regularly went on Twitch, he could match DSP's current income in 3 months, he is just far more naturally entertaining as a person than SadSackPhil.
