Yes, and the troll who did this created a monster and the mega e-begger we see today. This was all meant to be a big goof, but when it was brought to Phil's attention that somebody made a troll Patreon under his name it gave him the idea to make a real one for himself. He had never talked about it or considered one previously and I'm pretty sure he only learned what Patreon was at that moment. He created his pretty much immediately after this.

So if it wasn't for this troll Patreon account, Phil would never have made his or had even heard what Patreon was.

Phil's former fans turned detractors are always way more a-loggy and vehement in their hate than his normal detractors. They feel like they have to "make up" for the sin of being Phil's fan and keeping him around, leading to things like the SoK making 8 hour long podcasts dedicated to examining every little thing Phil says and does. Phil Derangement Syndrome, i.e. :autism:, is very prevalent among them.

I dont think its 'making up', its more likely they're angry to have fallen for his shtick. If someone hoodwinks you, how angry do you get with yourself for falling for a 'beginners trap'?

Yeah its not really surprising the way he spoke about bits was the issue. I wrote some shit about it here:

It may be a bit of both because he did stuff like say he raised "thousands" and that kind of language. By doing a fundraiser and saying Bits are part of that fundraiser you're also implicitly using those bits in relation to "real world" money (i.e. paying taxes).

Twitch/Amazon don't want you to be thinking you're actually sending money because that attaches not only legal issues with the usage of bits but also gives a connotation to users that they're actually spending money.

So if you say you want to buy something in the real world with the proceeds of bits and ask for them to buy that thing, you're giving people the impression that this "imaginary money" has real-world value:

The simple interpretation of it is that using them for "financial support" is against the rules, but using them in any capacity to relate to "real world" money or provide any tangible "value" is something Amazon and Twitch do not want users to do.

Its a bit similar to the current issues around lootbox gambling. Once you start a "market" and your "videogame money" becomes "real world money" you will get anally probed by every government in every country on earth. Its simply not something that is possible to do (at least not for Amazon to do)

So:

• You can't ask for Bits for financial support
• You can't directly give bits a financial value
• You can't (after the fact) say that the bits you received helped to pay for something
  
• You can't provide any form of value for bits received in the form of "content" besides reading people's messages.

Said it in another thread, but DSP's biggest name detractors all seem to be former fans of his, so there's always a slight hint of bitterness in everything they do. I don't think Drgn is as bad as some folk make out, his worst issue is that he tends to jump the gun a lot with info, then that riles up the sperg army into doing some really pathetic shit. As for the REEing about his shitty video game opinions, who gives a shit, its his account, he can tweet what he wants. Just skip that and read the DSP stuff, if you even follow him.

I do love that "Fundraiser" is practically a banned word now though. Why can't Dave just be honest and say he got banned for soliciting funds. It's not gonna stop his paypigs from giving cash just because he's using different semantics for his begging. Dude can't EVER admit fault.
