It's a strong magnet for that stuff, but anything and everything can and will attract autism.

Sakurai directed Kid Icarus Uprising so he was probably playing favourites with Palutena and Dark pit. Either way, the fandom took it as "Sakurai is forcing characters he likes instead of characters who deserve, therefore he needs to DIE!"

Adding Dark Pit also took much less time than it would to add an entirely new character to the game.

Smash fans have a tendency to overanalyze everything which is why the autism over silhouette even occurred despite everyone in it being obvious veterans. The same goes for painstakingly tearing apart every word to twist into what they think (often times what they want to hear) Sakurai thinks when deciding on characters (especially if it's their favorites). But at the end of the day, the character decision boils down to one thing, what he likes and if he can get them. For the most part, nothing will stop Sakurai's preferred character from getting into at least the planning stage.

When considering we have a grand total of six Fire Emblem characters, three Kid Icarus characters yet only two DK characters and little Kirby contents outside of Sakurai-directed games, he's arguably become more selfish than the past three games when it comes to character choices. At the same time, I'd argue he's earned the right to do so.

So it's still pointless to throw a raging bitch fit that your husbando or waifu didn't make it in since everyone is still buying the game anyway. If said "bad" choices are so egregious that you refuse to spend money on it, do what Diddy Kong (the Smashboards user) did and blow your money on hookers.

While Sakurai is obviously biased, i'm sure he is still forced to add characters Nintendo wants him to promote. Like it or not, Smash is a huge fucking advertisement machine, Roy and Corrin were in before their games came out, Lucario and Greninja are obligatory reps for their pokemon generations, Shulk in there to remind you Nintendo is making new Xenoblade games, while Villager and Wii fit trainer are just too sucessful to not add.

Look how hard Nintendo's been pushing Splatoon and of course no one is surprised the squid kids were the next newcomers. Springman from Arms will be the next one, and the fans will still whine that "He only has one game that was only released a while ago so he doesn't deserve it REEEEE!"

IIRC, there was/is a TV Tropes user that got assblasted over Cloud getting in over Lip (shitty pedobait from a puzzle game nobody remembers (Panel de Pon), and was constantly changed in the west to get rid of the pedobait).
I think he actually tried to claim that Lip would be more popular with normies than Cloud (LOL WUT).
Honestly. how many characters are actually wanted for their gameplay potential and not because "OMG MAI WAIFU!"?
 
People still bitch about modern warfare 1 mp balance and that game has been dead for years.

I’d understand if madden 2019 just decided fuck it no Browns they suck, but that’s a “sim” with real teams competing in a real league.

Nintendo should just do like everyone else and charge these babies massive prices for reskins so they will stfu
 
In the future Olympics, autism will be in high demand for only the finest Fox players. Final stage, no items. This is for America, motherfuckers. Alas, with that, the sex orgy between Olympic athletes will come to a grinding halt.
