It's about whether dead sexual predators should have their reputations protected in order to protect their victims.

More specifically from an SA viewpoint, it's about how Dan Olson (Foldable Human) repeatedly finds himself associated with sexual predators. People have been banned from SA before for defending sexual predators, not to mention SA's involvement in the closure of multiple sub-reddits with questionable content.

It's not entirely clear that mombot got it right, but they appear to be doing a flounce and they're a popular Twitter figure. There'll definitely be backlash against anyone perceived to have "driven mombot off Twitter".

Then some chick fucked a bunch of game bloggers, they wrote about her game, and people used that as a clear-cut example of corruption in video game coverage. In turn, the chick claimed they were harassing her and trying to kick all women out of the industry--and several other women jumped on the bandwagon for fun and profit.

Now most of those women and their beta orbitters have Lolcow threads on here, and most of the Gamergate people are relegated to a Subreddit where they try in vain to promote ethics and objectivity in a branch if media that never had those things and never will.

The video game "journalist" community has always been corrupt as fuck, but leading up to August 2014, there's a SJW injection and falling ad revenue means only the shittiest journalism graduates write for games magazines. They do really poorly, often times they lack the gaming skills to be able to play the games they are reviewing, so lot of resentment has been building.

The "gate" part happened because some sloot sucked and fucked her way to prominence, and her boyfriend outted the fact she'd fucked several notable game industry figures who gave her flash-based Choose-you-own-adventure game glowing reviews and mentions in video games press.
After this came out, other details leaked out about just how incestuous & circle-jerky the gaming press world is, with lots of small studio/indy games getting promotion solely due to the creator's friendship with some well-connected journalist.


OTOS there are a bunch of turbo spergs, a very vocal minority of which are some really terrible humans. Terrible enough their actions overshadowed said corruption.

In the end, only the wrong lessons were learned on both sides.

It boggles my mind that people still can't understand this simple explanation of events.

The one person who ever came closest to justifying his anti-gg fervor to me logically was by saying that games journalism is not and never was "real" journalism, it's always been a de facto advertising platform and thus necessarily biased - which any sensible customer should've recognized - therefore any customer who felt lied to should've understood the concept of caveat emptor. But my rebuttal was that even if that was true, there were a ton of fans who wanted it to be real and fair journalism, and they had a point because the field has always made the choice to portray itself as having integrity when they could've just admitted they were shills - so his claims that that was just a show and was effectively "just the way it's done" were meaningless because people were tired of the "way it's done". In other words, he thought that the lie was legitimized pageantry, while I said they wouldn't have a business built on fooling customers if they weren't scumbags worthy of getting fed some harsh medicine to begin with.
