I don't think they're aiming to be a YouTube replacement though. They're probably aiming to just host episodic content like AVGN, Nostalgia Critic, Redlettermedia and those sorts of videos.

Becoming a jack of all trades like YouTube is probably far less profitable than just hosting selected good videos and when I say selected I mean basically any videos that have an audience, are made with care/attention and aren't shit (not Phil's videos).

Although I can support the idea of uploading a backup copy of phil's khantent somewhere where it was organized and easily accessible to detractors we all know how lazy phil is. Its hard to imagine him taking the effort to reupload any significant quantity of lost videos let alone his whole mammoth archive. You'd have to find someone willing to do it for him and then his paranoia might prevent this. So all that footage in all those stacked up dusty hds somewhere thats not already backed up can probably be considered lost for all practical intents and him 'storing' it is pretty much pointless OCD.

I guess Phil didn't learn the lesson that it's not only the game that's being streamed that draws attention, but who the streamer is. Phil got big views for Bloodborne because not a whole lot of people stream it and people like watching Souls games for whatever reason, so Phil filled a hole in the market. For a game like God of War that everybody is going to play, most people will go to their favorite streamer. But there is a chance to attract some potential new fans from randoms that happen upon your stream. This is where it all goes wrong for Phil.
His prestreams are too long and almost have nothing to do with the actual game he's about to play; there's mostly whining about money problems and detractors. The new viewer has no idea what's being talked about and is already made to feel like an outsider. Once the gameplay starts, Phil is fucking awful and doesn't pay attention to what's going on most of the time, then makes a thousand excuses for why he died/failed. Alternatively, Phil will find an exploit in the game and cheeses it throughout the whole playthrough, and if anybody tells him it's boring he calls them an elitist asshole then goes on another rant about more successful streamers/YouTubers. Probably the worst thing about Phil's streams is that he has NOTHING to talk about and the only times he talks are to complain, read shoutouts from extremely weird people and to yell at the chat to stop talking about off-topic subjects. There is no fun allowed. There is no conversation between streamer and viewer. There is only Phil. And don't ask for his opinion on anything, because everything that exists outside of his house is completely irrelevant to him and there's no point in having an opinion. To top it all off, the chat mods are power hungry sociopaths that demand your respect, and any perceived slight against them will result in your permanent banishment from the Gout Kingdom. There is not a single reason why a new viewer should stick around and every reason why Phil hasn't experienced any growth on Twitch.

btw on the topic of the whole "my hard drive died" meme

It sounds like the partition table got corrupted which can and does happen. It doesn't mean the physical hard drive failed unless you're an idiot. That or the USB part of the drive failed rather than the hard drive itself (which means you get a screwdriver and pull the drive out)

But Phil is a former PC builder so I'm sure he knows all of that and checked on things before making an assumption ()

Anyway, no one who seriously values their back ups would ever use a fucking USB removable drive for reasons just like these and because no hard drive in the history of history has ever not failed.

Every device, whether motherboard, graphics card, monitor, keyboard, mouse, RAM or even the fucking power cable will fail eventually and it wouldn't surprise me if he goes to plug in one or more of his old drives one day and its fucked.

The Spartan comment was fucking gold. And to add, he said "Flame" instead of "wind" literally 30 minutes or so, with chat correcting him the whole time. And the wind thing was an integral part of the section he was in. Just shows how little he pays attention.

Ardnas was a great channel because people who didnt stalk and a-log dsp were able to find out what was going on with him on a daily basis. what drama or scam was going to be next. the SOK had this belief that everyone in the world knew all that knowledge about dsp already, really legit thought that everyone stalked him and watched every second of his content like they did. With ardnas people could see dsp's new scam for the day in a 7-10 min video. and they obviously got jealous that she got more views opposed to their 7 hour podcasts that they spent so much time on

I'd assume it's for monetized kahntent only, and as most detractor videos are not monetized he's likely going to be getting diddly-squat. That's just my take on it but I might be wrong.
