It's socal and it's a furry con. Something else was gonna fuck it over at this rate, and their rep was really poor. Look how they're handling the whole "hotel kicked us" situation, or refunds for this year.

No doubt, but AltFurry were the ones that started playing the funeral dirge, and it's hard to downplay their involvement or feel sympathy when we've documented it all here. Naturally hotels don't want anything to do with it all and this wasn't the first time one has decided to show a con the door.

Yeah, once people are done doing fingerpointing, it'll be interesting to see what thinkpieces come up that document a timeline of Califur's demise. If there's one thing I honestly dislike about furry fandom, in its modern state, is that they don't seem keen to archive their history or talk about a lot of the really interesting aspects (i.e. con behind the scene stories).

At least people are shutting down the Leftist "REEEE ALT-FURRY REEEEE" talk by pointing out to people that, yeah, for once Alt-Furry was not behind this (though it's still funny they got as far as they did) and only hastened a demise that was coming from years of managerial ineptitude and a total lack of forethought and logistics planning. Among many, many other things, apparently.

No, it wasn't Hoot. Saying who exactly or giving more specific details would run the risk of "outing" me outside of the Farms, though, and that ain't a risk I'm willing to take.

I will say that, while this person was pretty miserable after the breakup, she didn't turn out nearly as badly as Hoot did and actually moved on in a healthy manner.

I'm not 100% on the up and up of Califur's history, but it sounds to me like it was becoming Rainfurrest 2.0: years of inept leadership and organization that built up over the years, slowly reaching the breaking point in various ways. They're never going to change at this rate.

honestly id attribute califurs downfall to one of the founders disintegrating health and then death. he held a lot of that con together, and when he died it pretty much fell apart. alt-furry was just the nail in the coffin

im hoping that most of the conventions die out tbh, then we'd get some "social darwinism" to make the remaining cons that much stronger. or itll make them worse, i mean this is the furry fandom we're talking about here
