What the hell are you seeing on that tutorial? How that has anything to do with some forced uglification, she has small nose, full lips and just nomal looking eyes. There's nothing about this that would be about trying to make the character edgy-ugly, it's just that the artist is bad at drawing and that's why their character looks ugly.

What would be gutsy is if Jo's body actually did recieve some of the negatives of being obese like major knee pain, getting easily fatigued, or having some health problems. Then having to make some choices about what she's going to do with it: get healthier, ignore the doctor and continue suffering the consiquences, or make herself fatter just to piss everyone else off?

This has me unreasonably mad because it's literally just swapping out one set of artistic "symbols" for another, which is the exact opposite of what a budding artist (I'm assuming that this is a tutorial geared towards early beginners) should do when trying to move away from anime style. Drawing faces is more than just playing Mr. Potato Head with a bunch of random "realistic" facial features.

It's a basic character design thing in cartooning to make characters with bulbous noses a different color IF that nose is a separate element on the face (separated with completed lines). It looks good. That's why Muppet noses look cute and funny on their faces. But, it crosses into "weird and ugly" territory when that big fucking nose is the same tone as the rest of their face.

But separate that element a little and WOW.

Night and day.

But how could I expect Tumblr kiddies to understand fundamentals of character design. Silly me. Regardless this potato nose trend needs to stop. It's hideous and often without real purpose.

its almost always slapped onto otherwise pretty realistic faces, and theres an attempt to make the nose realistic as well

i think its an attempt at bigger noses but, bigger noses dont just grow in size like theyve been stretched with the resize tool- certain parts of the nose get bigger than others, and theres different KINDS of bigger noses
it's like how fat people get fatter in certain body parts, not just get bigger all at once like my favorite vore doujin
