I'd guess they are on synirc but are private cause I've hung out in a few of the goon chats there on occasion and the most we ever did was fuck with GWS one time a few years back.

That's just stealth gassing it. Anyone that complains about the name change will get dogpiled and the thread will die. If anyone tries to start a new one it will either be gassed or a huge slapfight as all of the people who have given up in the past come back for the next round. It's more creative than just gassing it like the last eight though.

Smythe did something similar recently when someone made a thread trying to figure out if Genesplicer or Ozma was worse. It lasted a page before Smythe kramered in there with a wacky demand that every post have "Cum Slut 84" in it or else he would start probating people and started probating the people that were complaining about the mods. Once the thread was filled with hilarious "Cum Slut 84" lines it was gassed.

Yeah I could see that, there is another thread about Marx's birthday in GBS and wouldn't doubt there being another couple if I dug around. Just trying to kill it by hiding it with a bunch of other similarly titled threads. I'm still amused at how many people come in that thread to rage about Trump.

I saw the Genesplicer/Ozma thread too, it was pretty funny but it was making the mods mad so of course it had to go.

Like Anime is Blood said, they're killing the thread by changing the topic via title change. I also noticed another games journalism thread in the gas chamber. It had several pages despite getting killed fairly quickly. So it looks like making fun of Kotaku can be added to the long list of things you're not allowed to do there. Even though it's clearly something goons want to do.

I know I keep wondering around here saying I dont "get gamer gate" but that shit is years old now. I could get behind the mods saying talking about the "precise people/event" is verboten. but with the death of print media and the payloa nature of the industry seems like a topic that shouldnt bother anyone.

It's cause the people getting paid off that are being made fun of have the correct opinions don't cha' know? Plus a bit of it hits close to some of the forum superstars is my second guess.
