His current church with Rocky is a bunch of bleeding-heart liberals, but he didn't always go there. He and Bob used to go to that Korean church before he got kicked out of there for his internet antics.
That was actually a third church in the middle. The timeline of Chris' church attendance is this:
Childhood: Unknown. My best guess is that they were semi-regulars at some local mainline Protestant church. Since it hasn't come up in Christorical canon, it can't have been a particularly important part of life, and there can't have been any major incidents.
Move to Richmond: Attended a Korean Presbyterian Church. That choice seems to have been largely because Bob became good pals with the minister there. They seem to have been vaguely welcoming and supportive of Chris (they gave him a bible as a high school graduation gift) and he seems to remember them reasonably fondly.
Move back to Charlottesville: They joined a freshly opened Baptist church called Grace Baptist. It seems likely they didn't have a particularly pro-gay theology, and Chris may have picked up some of his homophobia from them. But I think his Father was the main source. Shortly after Chris started to become a big deal on the internet, they asked him to leave. The details about that banning seem to me to be vague and unreliable. Probably some combination of them finding out about some of the weird parts of early Christory and Chris being annoying when dealing with them.
After ban from Grace: They moved to Wesley Memorial, which seems to be a fairly liberal church. It seems unlikely that Chris got any of his homophobia from them. They were pretty welcoming and tolerant towards Chris, and were the employer of Rocky, who spent considerable time and effort trying to solve Chris' problems, albeit fairly ineffectively. He did feud with them a little bit 5 years ago. It looks like they asked him to stay away for a month because he kept rambling about his nonsense during a period in the service where attendees are supposed to share quick prayers and blessings. That annoyed Chris, and he threatened to stay away for longer as retaliation for the ban, and because he was annoyed that the church wasn't helping him to a satisfactory level. Since then, his interaction with them seems to have petered out. Bob was the one who took him to church, and Barb didn't usually come, so my guess is that his death is a big reason for that.
