I thought you got banned for anything, espicially stuff the mods didn't like?
But some inbetween shot of Krusty the Clown sniffing burgers is the thing that triggers some current mod.
Genesplicer is also notorious for probating posts containing words he doesn’t understand or like the look of. Coincidently, he is old as hell (for a web forum moderator, anyway) and gainfully employed, which makes me wonder why he sticks around at all. Like, if you don’t get it and you have much better uses for your time than babysitting GBS posters anyway, then why not do any of those instead?
That's sort of acceptable because moderators on Something Awful used to not like low-effort posting, and it would probably be irritating seeing everyone posting "wow, just wow" and nothing else in response to a thread. If I recall, mods also issued warnings or locked threads if they began with "So, I..."They did at one point pass around probations for saying "wow, just wow" at some point, as if it wasn't some kind of thing normal human beings said at regular intervals. Overreacting to the mundane is the norm.
Here comes the twist: They were doing that just for posts containing those words, even if there was more to the post that wouldn't have earned mod ire if it was posted without the preceding bit. That's sort of acceptable because moderators on Something Awful used to not like low-effort posting, and it would probably be irritating seeing everyone posting "wow, just wow" and nothing else in response to a thread. It's still petty, but we do the same thing here where moderators don't really appreciate low-effort posts that add nothing to the discussion, like a user's short, three-word reaction. But I will also concede that we don't outright ban people for it, which is especially egregious if you paid ten real dollars to register.
In other words, it's relatively alright to hand out a little six-hour probation for a low-effort post, regardless how common the opinion within the post is. But it's unacceptable to ban a first-time offender for doing it, especially when they paid $10 to do it.
Okay, then that's just stupid and the mods are idiots. Here comes the twist: They were doing that just for posts containing those words, even if there was more to the post that wouldn't have earned mod ire if it was posted without the preceding bit.
He's gearing up for another begathon.
Pretty much, at the end of the day we want to be known for something and for him it's volunteering at SA. It's not much but it probably helps make his life feel a little more meaningful.Same reason Lowtax doesn't try to cash out on SA despite a user base that is increasingly hostile to him, and him obviously no longer enjoying himself there (or posting on SA at all except to beg for money, and make a few other posts to make it look like he's not just there simply to beg for money):
This is the only power they'll ever have over other people. As gay and tenuous as it is, they never had, and will never have, any power greater than whatever they have over the remaining stockholm syndrome goons who still post on SA in 2018.
SA is pretty much worthless at this point.Same reason Lowtax doesn't try to cash out on SA

I'm rather iffy on experimental treatment costing $25,000; usually they'll let you take experimental shit for free (or pay you) so they can build a study for the FDA.
Unless what he probably means is "insurance classes it as experimental" - which is the treatment has passed FDA approvals for "not poison", but there isn't enough data on the efficacy for the insurance company to shell out the cash. Or possibly that there is enough data, and the data says "The percentage of people helped by this treatment times its cost means that we won't approve it as a treatment option because there is another treatment that, per dollar, is more effective".
sorry kids, that's how it works. And before you smug euro fags start chiming in, don't for a damn second think the folks who run your national health programs don't do the exact same math. Though I'll grant you the cost/benefit ratio is less exacting.
Which again means that someone isn't negotiating correctly. If you've got someone responding to a treatment, the drug manufacturers fucking love themselves some good press (and to raise their stats) and will cut you a price break - especially if you can pay upfront.

Somethingawful is going to continue withering on the vine and slowly transforming into NeoGAF because Lowtax, for whatever reason, just doesn't care enough to try to reform things anymore.
It's been my theory for a bit that a few of the mods/admins have something on him to keep him from trying to fix anything in addition to his ineptness at running the site. Just look at how fast he backed down on the few occasions he did try to fix shit when the mods started bitching.
