Is it wrong that this news makes me want to cry? I liked the SCP stories, damn it. OK, not all of them were top tier, but the magic vending machine, the 'Sculptor of Soho', even Fred the self-inserting character -- inexplicable, weird, and neat to read.

SCP is such shit. It takes all the worn out old tropes that have already made creepypasta and micro-fiction in general into a predictable slog of mediocrity, and forces them into a restrictive mold that only makes them worse.
Aside from a few miracles, there haven't been any good SCPs since the ones that were stolen right off of /x/. And even some of those are bad or ripped off of something else. After they were done stealing shit, the site devolved into a bunch of edgy 13 year olds writing articles about their fursonas, with the staff overseeing them while LARPing as members of a fictional organization in a way that makes you want to vomit. They eventually clamped down on quality control, but that doesn't solve the key issue - this entire project is a contradiction in terms. The reason the first SCP became so popular as to create copycats was that it was mysterious. It was an original idea that let your imagination run wild with possibilities. But the more you add to the lore, the less of those possibilities remain. To add is to subtracts.
On top of that, the mindset that existed on 4chan and created those original stories did not exist outside of it. These people can't write worth of shit. In fact, if I'm not wrong, in the original version of that rape ritual story, it explicitly said that the ritual was rape. But over the years the fags on the site have edited and re-edited that thing into a hollow husk, gradually removing anything they deem too offensive and adding a moralizing addendum to the article, whereas, in its original form, the story was good specifically because it posed a difficult moral question without trying to answer it. In the meantime, the current site has an article that explains why you shouldn't use rape in your stories.
Today this site still lives on thanks to past glory (or maybe stolen valor), and to this day it's most upvoted stories, and the only ones that anyone cares enough about to try to make a game about, are the ones they stole when the site was founded. Which must be a real punch to the gut of the current admins who've started treating the site as their potential cash cow that they hope to one day profit off of.
One guy who made a giant lint doll, the picture of which went viral for a short while, contacted me and told me that when someone tried to make an SCP out of it, the site admins demanded he gets the guys approval to avoid copyright issues, then the approval of the guy who posted it on reddit, and when he got both they insisted he bring them the person who actually took the picture. They think they're gonna make money off of this.

Another thing to note is that Foundation personnel have often been completely or partly anonymous, so the fact that full names and images are used just goes to show how little these people actually care.

This. It hasn't been good in a long time, arguably was never good, and is now overrun with SJW tards who aren't even good enough to live up to the mediocrity of the past. You are never even going to see anything of the quality of SCP-682, which is a good creation of its type, even if it is really just the standard "Fuckhuge Indestructible Monster that Kills Everything" trope.

I went through with it about two years ago when the "Woke" crowd already had snuck in, when i tried writing an SCP it was shot down because it had "a worrysome preference to not harm male staff" and some other fuck said "it could be gay but you didn't take the chance".
Shit wasn't even humanoid, and it was Keter
But yeah the site is even lower than trash now, most good original scps have been watered down by these speds.
