Diseased #Comicsgate - The Culture Wars Hit The Funny Books!

I know one near me that's been around for over 20 years that does that too, some shops know how to keep themselves afloat with more than just comics.

I know one place that sells only comics - it's been around for years and it'll probably still be here when I'm dead. But the difference is they don't sell just comics from the mainstream publishers. Those are in the back of the store. The frontmost rack of stuff is the kids' comics, with reprints of the classics in the back, and European adult stuff opposite... And then the superhero trades and manga and underground stuff behind that.

It is the only comic book store I know of in America with real, honest variety.

It also happens to be in a big city. Unfortunately, I don't think variety of the kind it has will actually profit outside big cities, so there isn't really an answer here.

That sounds rad. Do you mind dropping the name of the shop?

He works* for Comic Crusaders website.

He's such a fucking neckbeard he literally has a neckbeard on the back of his neck.

He went full Chimpman. Except some people actually had heard of The Escapist. It's pathetic anyone would consider losing a jerb for somewhere literally nobody has even heard of to be "putting his nuts on the chopping block." It's hard to imagine anything less significant than Comic Crusaders, whatever that even is.

He's a non-entity in a niche hobby. One that we can verifiably watch shrink on a monthly basis as sales figures come out and sales outlets shutter. Assuming his intra-hobby reach even is growing (doubtful, but I guess possible) all he's doing is getting those Titanic deck chairs set just the way he wants them.

To further the anology it would be like screaming "I'm king of the world" as the Titanic is sinking.

Not that I want to see proof, but I'm skeptical this dude's testicles aren't already in a jar on somebody's mantel.

It wouldn't be surprising if he decided to troon out eventually.

Give them credit, they dumped this clown because they don't want any drama.

This is the same website that published, and still has up, fake articles from “Melissa Morgue” harassing D&C. They dumped this clown because they don’t want any litigation. Both EVS and D&C are currently extremely well funded and are reaching a breaking point where they go for the lawyers. You don’t want to be the small website that pushes them over the edge. All it means is Comic Crusaders has slightly more sense of self preservation than this autistic assclown.

Jon Malin may be the One Sane Man left in the industry. Can't believe he had to drop a twitter thread to state the obvious to these clowns. You're here to write for legacy IPs and earn money, if you're off in lala land doing something else you are doing it wrong.

Seems to be a lot of confusion between these two sites.

CORRECTION: I mistook ‘ComicCrusaders’ as ‘CapelessCrusaders’.

Customers can't order copies of Jawbreakers from you if your store shuts down before it's released.

I wrote up corrections, I mistook the name and thought it was Capeless Crusaders. Comic Crusaders had nothing to do with Morgue.

Magic Mirror Comics Is Your Local Passport to the World of Gaming

When you think comics, you may feel nostalgic for the graphic novels of your youth like Batman, Superman or Spiderman, or maybe you think about superhero movies like Thor or The Avengers. But you may not realize the extent of the graphic novel and gaming world until you step into Magic Mirror Comics in Mill Creek Town Center.

Although Magic Mirror Comics carries DC and Marvel comics, they also support independent authors and host special nights each month for women and LGBTQ authors. Ladies night is the first Friday of every month, and Pride night is the last Friday of every month. Besides graphic novels, Magic Mirror also champions board and card games like Magic: The Gathering and Warhammer, and miniatures and collectibles.

Opened as The Comic Stop in Everett Mall in 2003, Heather McFarlane, who worked as a store manager, took over the business in 2017 and moved to Mill Creek Town Center. When it came time to move the store, McFarlane knew that Mill Creek was the right place to go.

“I lived in the neighborhood already and I knew that Mill Creek was welcoming,” says McFarlane. “Mill Creek is walkable and inviting, and the Mill Creek Town Center Business Association was warm and friendly to me as a business owner.”

McFarlane encourages that same welcoming and inclusive attitude in her store. When asked about the changes she has seen in the comic book business, McFarlane points to a greater focus and market share on independent titles and creator-owned content.

“Batman, Wonder Woman and Superman are still going strong, but there are also stories that haven’t been told before,” says McFarlane. “As an example, Black Panther is a strong title without the movie because it is interesting and diverse.”

Magic Mirror Comics is located at 15118 Main St., Suite 500. The store currently is operating on winter hours, 12-8 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Wednesday, and 11 a.m. - 9 p.m. on Saturday. Wednesday is new comic book day so expect higher traffic. Visit the website at www.magicmirrorcomics.com.

:story: If I’m reading this right, Heather McFarlane took over MagicMirrorComics at the beginning of 2018 and kept making terrible decision after terrible decision causing the business to close down.

Strike 1, moving from a mall to an outlet store.

Although it can be expensive to have your comic shop in a mall, it’s way more accessible to new and regular clientele. Moving costs, which we all know would have been inexpensive if you knew what you were doing and offered some free comics to your clients for helping with a move. The GoFundMe attempt leads me to believe that Heather fucked up early in her ownership, she didn’t just ask for moving money, she asked for enough money to operate her shop for the first year of operation.

Strike 2 and Strike 3, virtue signaling about Jawbreakers and banning Dylan (RealComicBookGamer). Fine, you don’t want to stock it, but kicking out a customer with a Pull list over this petty shit pretty much was the last nail in your metaphorical coffin. You didn’t just piss off Zack and the CG spergs, you made yourselves look like asses to neutral parties.

It took less than a year for Heather less than a year to completely tank a (somewhat) successful comic store. Now MMC is just another shop among the growing number of closing shops, only this one was almost intentionally made to fail by the owners dumbass decisions and virtue signaling.

You have a point about Strike 1, but as our boi Zack pointed out in a video yesterday, by the time Dylan got banned there's no way they didn't know it was almost over for them. Going out of business doesn't come out of nowhere. I suspect their problems predated the move; they must have been forced to seek more affordable premises.

If anything, that stunt made it difficult for anyone outside the echo chamber to sympathise with them going out of business.
