SuperWhoLock

I like Doctor Who; it's one of the only shows that's currently on the air that I still watch. I hate the fanbase, though, and don't really talk to anyone about it because of that.

I watched the first five seasons of Supernatural when I was in high school and my freshman year of college, although I didn't really care about it after the second season. It got really boring and stupid, and I personally think they should have ended it at that point, which was the original plan IIRC.

I have never seen an episode of Sherlock, and I don't plan on it.

I wonder if they went with an old, cranky doctor just to troll the hell out of their tumblr fanbase.
I like to think they did. I also think that's why they went on about how Clara (his current companion) should accept him despite the fact that he looks old and has a new face in the first episode of the most recent season/series. Gotta keep that spergy cash machine running.

Dr. Who is a kids' show in Great Britain. When Peter Capaldi, who is very well known for his "colourful" language in his other works, was announced to be the next doctor, it caused a bit of a stir. NSFW

Peter Capaldi is great. I loved him in The Thick Of It.

Is it just me, or does this combination strike you as being as arbitrary as fuck?

The three components of this frankenfranchise don't really go together.
One is full of occultism while the other two are grounded in rationality and science.
One is set in the 1800s, one is set strictly in the present, and the third would quickly get tired of being a time-bridge between the two.

I mean, why not just merge....i dunno....Chicago Hope + Twin Peaks + StarGate SG1.
Or CSI:Miami + Blakes7 + Ballykissangel.
Or House MD + Smallville + motherfucking Spongebob Squarepants.
It would make as much sense.

Apparently, the main reason the fangirls like Supernatural is that there is a threat of Twincest; and fangirls like Sherlock because.....cucumberpatch is "dishy" in a "My Parents are from Innsmouth" kinda way that appeals to women with poor eyesight.
The only way this merger would work is if Sherlock is actually one of The Doctors other selves and the two dudes from Supernatural are....related to him somehow.

I dunno.

Whatever.

Nevermind.
I like that you're trying to apply logic to something that clearly hurled logic out the window a long ass time ago.

Hi everyone, I'm new here, but been a long time lurker.
Finally decided to make an account and start posting.

For this thread, I've seen a bit of Superwholock on Tumblr, as well as have friends that like one or more of the fandoms. I'm not surprised that somebody thought it would be a great idea to combine three of the most popular fandoms on tumblr together. Like many people mentioned, the three shows have hot guys, cool stuff happening, and a LOT of "homoerotic" subtexts ( that is to say if you put on your shipper's goggles you can see it).

For me personally, I like Sherlock the most, because it had the fewest seasons to watch and I liked the show's cast very much ( Plus I find Martin Freeman better looking than Benedict).

I am surprise though that Homestuck is not included in the mix, seeing as how popular it is on Tumblr. Very popular. I guess the fandom would be called SuperwholockStuck???

I'll admit I don't like any of these shows. I gave Doctor Who a try but just couldn't get into it. I came very close to losing a friend to superwholock, luckily she came to her senses before going too deep. Kind of a shame that the toxic community killed her interest in the shows though, she was a big fan of the three.

I think there's another combo-fandom called Rise of the Brave Tangled Dragons where it's just the main characters of Rise of the Guardians, Brave, Tangled and HTTYD hanging out together. It's nowhere near as insane as SuperWholock though for the simple reason of not screaming at people who don't like it and being much MUCH less about all the characters having yaoi fantasy sex with each other

Welcome! Glad you are on board. I'm newer myself. :)
Yes, I know that tag exists. I just don't think anyone wants to wade through the Ulysses ( comparison for length, not quality) that is Homestuck and the fandom. I have seen that tag floating around, along with shippings across those universes or theories that Sherlock is a troll or whatever.

Yes, that is what I think is dubbed the CGI Quartet. Something along those lines. They're actually pretty cool, haven't seen much whimsical fuckery out of them yet.

Edit: Forgot, here is more things I have mined.

Aren't the main two guys suppose to be brothers on the show?
The show even made a metafictional joke about this and that was nearly eight years ago.

Episode in question was about how their lives were turned into novels (think "Stranger Than Fiction") and they discovered fan girls were making porn of them.

"They know we're brothers, right? That's just sick!"
"I don't think they care."

PS - God, I'm getting old.

I had a friend once try to half-assedly defend the rampant incest smut the supernatural wing of the community produces. Her argument was "well they aren't really brothers" (referring to the actors not being real brothers) thus it's not like real incest smut which... sure, except in the context of all the fan fiction and art they're brothers. Contextually it's as incest as TJChurch's incest forum story thing. If you were just writing about the two actors then that'd be different, but people are writing about the characters they are portraying. That's the appeal, they call it wincest for Christ's sake.

She's got some self-admitted daddy issues though so, maybe it's not too surprising. (And not to get too Freudian, but I'd be surprised if that wasn't uncommon among some of the hardcore wincest shippers. Well adjusted folks aren't going crazy about the incest fanfiction they write to get themselves off.)

I've never seen any of the three shows in question, but isn't the only thing that connects them together is that they all contain guys tumblrinas find attractive?
For the record, I do watch and like all three shows for their own appeals. And yes, that's probably the primary reason.

Wasn't there a female character on Supernatural who kissed the angel guy that fans vilified hardcore because they thought it was going to ruin the made-up not real gay relationship the angel guy had with the brothers? Pretty sure I remember seeing hate posts on it

Someone brought of Rise of the Tangled Dragons being a much chill fandom compared to Superwholock. I have a theory about that.

More female characters.

Yaoi fangirls from my experience tend to be the most batshit insane and the higher ratio of males to females in a cast means more of them, so much batshit craziness.

When the gender of characters is more equal ration you tend to get a much more balanced fandom from what I've seen. It is gotten to the point where if I see a male majority cast that I don't want to get into the show because of fandom.

EDIT

I will also state that a show with a higher female to male ratio can also attract batshit crazy fans like Sailor Moon and MLP

Even Tumblr itself knows they are batshit.

The irony completely lost on them, of course.
So they're now trying to include Hannibal and Merlin into their shipfest fandom? Doesn't surprise me. I haven't seen Hannibal but from what I heard it has all the elements that appeal to SuperWhoLock people. I watched Merlin and I know that it would mix well with these people, I sat in a room full of SuperWhoLock fangirls watching the first episode and they were all over it.

The line in that post (it's a user post, tumblr's login page cycles through them, screencapping ones about your favorite fandom is a minor hobby for those on tumblr) is from Hannibal. The context in the show is of course, a lot less "lel we're such special snowflakes" that this image suggests.

Supernatural will be ending soon if I recall correctly. Hannibal could very easily take it's place. Hannibal is not a bad show, but I went from having trouble finding other people to shoot the shit about it with to never wanting to talk about it.

About a year after tumblr found out about the show, they had already managed to completely shit up everything surrounding it. It got so bad at one point an actor on the show had to come out and write a lengthy blog post about how the show's creator isn't a KKK Grand Wizard level racist and that tumblr doesn't understand how show-business works--all because she is asian and her character died on a show where someone dies every week and tumblr completely lost their fucking minds over it.
