Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

The fact that Smash can only be considered a proper competitive fighting game if you disable 90% of the features is a sign that the FGC should stop treating it as one.
I wouldn't consider that an unpopular opinion; the only I've seen that really think that are lolcows, and I wouldn't treat their opinions as being equal to normal people.

I don't people feel that fell the need to disable all the items and most of the stages so they can have a real match. At that point why not just play a real fighting game. Half the fun in Smash is all the dumb bullshit. They normally claim its to make it about skill, but I 'd argue it takes real skill to fight luck and the environment as well as the opponents.

I miss the turn based strategy rpg genre. Seriously it's almost fucking extinct, pretty much the only franchise still putting out new entries is Disgaea.
does fire emblem count, or is it something else

Speaking as a Final Fantasy fan, I don't like XII very much. It's a beautiful game to be sure, and definitely one of the more realized FF worlds, but its combat is just plain boring and I hate that you have to work to get the more useful gambits to make your team actually useful. Games like Baldur's Gate and Planescape: Torment let you do whatever the hell you want right out of the gate, so I don't understand why they would arbitrarily start you off with some useless ones in XII.

And while I'm at it I don't mind the license system all that much. I think it offers a little more customization with how you want to specialize your party members.

Smash Bros is the hackiest gaming franchise of all time and offers nothing new to fighting games aside from blatant fan service

It's a party game, dude. Nintendo never intended for it to be played in fighting game tournaments and shit like that. Smash ain't a fightan vidya gaem.

You're basically saying you hate Mario Party because of RNG and wackiness and are comparing it to a game like Carcassone or Agricola or Catan. Totally different things.

"Blatant fan service". Lol. No shit, bro. That's some top notch commentary.

I don't get the appeal of Stardew Valley. I'm not saying it's a bad game, I just could never get into it the way I could get into something like Terraria. Maybe it's the day/night system?

I don't think there's ever been a good Korean MMO and I'm amazed at how people keep getting burnt by them year after year. Also I don't think Wildstar got a fair shake, it had the best housing system in years and the over the top cartoonishness was refreshing amidst the swamp of stale Unreal engine Korean ports.
I think we need more video games set in the Vietnam War, even if I do know it's fairly unpopular compared to World War II, Modern, or Sci-Fi.

Rising Storm 2: Vietnam has been around for over a year in which time they've added the ARVN and Australians. Obviously it's not going to appeal to people who don't like realistic shooters and it has a lack of official maps but it's really solid for getting your 'Nam fix.

Streamlining (or dumbing down if you prefer) isn't always a bad thing. Some games have features that don't add a lot to the overall gameplay or are otherwise redundant or useless. Really, so long as it either gets replaced with a more interesting and involved system or gets merged with something else, streamlining actually has its place.

Now, if something that adds a lot to a game or at least has some potential in future releases gets removed without any real thought, or just for the sake of appealing to a "broader audience", then there's a problem.

Basically, just ask yourself. "How does this add or take away from the experience I intend to create?"
