So far my favorite thing about this cow is how bad of a liar she is. What is it with rednecks always creating elaborate fantasy tales for themselves? It wasn't even an accurate stereotype to begin with. They've always lived in close proximity to one another so they deal with it. It's the wealthy and middle class people that loathe the blacks because they only hear the negative side on the news (granted, the negatives are hard to ignore with that community) plus the working class types have more familiarity with that community because they often work the same jobs. Wealthier people don't have to work with them so they don't have that same familiarity.

In the south it was a very accurate stereotype until at least a generation after full mandated federal integration. Living in proximity doesn’t mean you don’t consider them beneath you. Proximity is a vague term, there were poor white sections of towns and black sections the two were very separate even if only blocks or 1/4 a mile apart. It’s where the whole “separate but equal” legal rational came from, emphasis on separate.

If you were poor white trash at least you could look down on “the blacks.” It goes back to keeping the share cropping system operating, which benefited wealthy white landowners. Encouraging racial division in the south was a tool to keep the poor people busy fighting among themselves instead of agitating for things like unions (which the blacks were treated as equals) or fair share cropping laws.

The mixing of black and white only came about thanks to mandated integration from the federal govt. HUD and Section 8 housing mandated no racial bias. So if white people wanted to move out of their dilapidated shotgun shacks into the new govt apartments with plumbing then they better get used to the idea of living in harmony with black neighbors.

Go watch videos of the fight to integrate schools in the south and tell me poor rednecks weren’t racist. The majority of KKK members post-1950 were poor and working class whites.

This isn’t to say rich and middle class whites weren’t racist too, they were, but poor whites were right alongside them to an even more vocal degree. The rich and middle class at least tried to be polite about their bigotry
