Tevin's video on the Vampyr playthrough gave voice to an issue I've been thinking about for a while. Like Theo says sometimes, he REALLY isn't a gamer. He very obviously doesn't like/is bored by video games, and that playthrough as well as the battle royales he plays are great examples of that. If the game isn't constant running and gunning, he advertises it as an interactive stream: "that's why PUBG is popular, it's like half gameplay, half stream interaction dood".

He thinks he's finally hit a happy medium where he's got his classic "reactionary gameplay" while also peppering in new "viewer interaction", but what really happened is that he ignores both unless.... say it with me... QUICK BUCK QUICK BUCK QUICK BUCK

It’s honestly the one that makes me slightly feel bad for him. He turned something that’s a hobby and luxury that some people in the world don’t ever get the chance to experience into a shitty deadend job with no room for advancement. I feel like at one point he liked video games but as soon as he was able to monetize his playthroughs, he couldn’t give a fuck about what he played. It’s honestly the one that makes me slightly feel bad for him. His Fallout 3/NV playthroughs (first runs) are Phil at his most. . .pure? You can tell he actually is enjoying the games he's playing and not legitimately doing it because he's into the experience. So it's not like he was always jaded, but even a blind man can look at his body of work and see a difference between then and now.

See its stuff like this that I was referring to way back about people on twitter bothering Twitch support so much that when Phil does fuck up they don't believe anyone so its how he stays around. Its more detrimental than anything. Cause its not only helping DSP stick around because now they're just gonna assume all tweets like this are bogus, but when detractors get flagged for harrassment, they're gonna believe it and take it seriously because they've been equally bothered by these random dudes constantly saying stuff like this.

At one point I was one of those people who flagged content and reported shit all the time, but it got to a point where not only was nothing going to come of it, but I was starting to allow DSP to influence my personal life and my decisions. I said it over on YouTube, aside from reading/posting here and watching a select few detractor videos, I’m done getting involved with DSP. There are points where I start to get genuinely upset with this whole situation and that’s just not good. The last thing I wanna do is start A-logging Phil and I just want to be able to check these updates and laugh at him and his fanbase.

Something I thought about today; I just can’t believe how Phil has done nothing but trash YouTube and Google the last few months, and he continues to catch break after break. It’s almost as if karma doesn’t really exist, because for as much shit as he talks on them for, “not helping him,” he certainly has gotten serious preferential treatment from them. I’m still at a loss as to how he managed to regain monetization on DSPGaming when he outright admitted that he broke ToS, and even after they cut him a break and allow him to fraudulently, “earn,” revenue, he continues to shit on them and say they’re useless. The cherry on top is how he truly believes that his timid, “threat,” had any bearing on whether or not he was able to regain monetization, as if he has enough of a following or any influence on the population as a whole. Nobody takes him seriously, save for maybe a few of his paypigs, but even then some of them do things purposefully that make me think they’re just detractors with deep pockets. Especially Swagginz, he managed to pay his way into getting Phil to play a game that everyone knew he wasn’t going to like, and even more fascinating is the fact that he hasn’t ragequit Madden yet.

I’m just hoping that Tevin restreams the shill stream, I want to see how badly he bombs. I wanna see if he has any dignity left and whether he talks shit on the game or bites his tongue in the name of revenue.

I've been calling Dave the EA of Let's Plays for as long as I can remember. He mass produces soulless content while putting stuff people want behind a paywall. He constantly has to spend money on the newest game and will completely abandon and shelve it if it doesn't turn a large enough profit.

I think his pride is so hurt from the fighting game days he decides that he will make money from games even if he absolutely hates it just to prove to his "haters" he could.

But to your second point about the threat, this was something I was saying when it happened; not only does he not have the clout to realistically be making these threats, but literally no one would have taken his side if he HAD tried to "blow it up". The public doesn't care about him, but when they do, they don't like him. That's why he's been consistently banned and demonetized everywhere he shows up.

YouTube really did save his ass by listening to his threats, but not in the way he thinks. If he had taken to Twitter off a handle of gin with this, it would have ruined, and I mean RUINED him. Nobody is happy with YouTube right now but the kind of shit he was and is saying would have gotten him crucified, he's so lucky it got nipped in the bud.

Yesterday I took the chance to watch the "Down the Rabbit Hole" of DSP again, which is just a little bit over a year old but of course makes statements about his deep past and why people didn't like him then. Here's the thing, this video could have been made last week, about Phil from last week, I couldn't tell the difference.
He "adapted" and "changed" like people change their underwear, the human in it stays the same. Look, new equipment. Look, new house. Look, new layout; minor exchanges of material objects isn't a change, Phil.
Look, "I adapted to interactive streaming" (aka started talking with the audience?). Look, I don't get triggered anymore and have a thicc skin now. Look, I am always positive now. Look, I don't talk crap about people anymore. That's a bunch of lies and either he already believes that, tries to scam people or if he's in the middle of convincing himself. Doesn't matter, a lie stays a lie.

Just like with his "We stahp mentioning detractors and stay pahsitive" which is in itself the mentioning of detractors, in each and every stream, in one or another form during the stream. It's like saying "We stop eating burgers, while I eat this burger". If he would just shut up then new viewers wouldn't even know about their existence. He really can't live without us.

It's a given that he'd become severely jaded with vidya as he forces himself to play games that he'd otherwise have no interest in (ex. the soulsborne games) and frustrate him to no end due to his lackluster ability in them just because that's how he thinks he can earn a living.

It’s the Wolverine toy all over again. He didn’t get his way NOW. He is still to this day a petulant child. Even after eventually getting his way, he will still talk shit about YouTube and Google, just like he was still talking shit about his parents some 15 years after they didn’t get him that Wolverine toy.

Watching the SoK’s Let’s Endure of his Friend Request Ridicule (or whatever he called it), is what got me hooked on this whole rollercoaster. Sure he sucks at video games and it’s fun to watch him fail at even the simplest of tasks, in game or in real life (spooning ramen noodles). But the arrogance that seethed out of those videos was something I can’t say I’ve actually witnessed from a YouTube “creator”. Most “rising stars” have at least some sense of humility about them as they become popular (except for Jim Metokur who just burns his channels down), but Phil seems to think the world owes him this. And because of that, I look forward to watching him eventually fail. It’s going a shit show of a monumental scale that should go down in the annals of Internet history. At least I hope so, that’s why I keep coming back.

I think its fairly easy to see why Phil feels like the world owes him a luxurious living till the day he dies. When he talks about his legacy 2 things stand out - the number of videos and the years he's been making them. In his mind this is huge and it is honestly, not many people can say they have this amount of Yutube "legacy". So Phil, again in his mind, is one of the biggest best creators and as such he deserves all the money he gets and some more. Quality kind of doesn't matter. As long as at some point those videos were popular and liked they should remain the same forever.

Phil uses the Soulsborne games exclusively for street cred now. He hates every second of playing them - you can tell because he ticks off all the memes that sum up a Phil playthough. Extreme chat handholding, prolonged periods of sulky silence, constantly blaming the game, toxicity towards fans of the game ("keep sucking the FromSoft dick!") and so on, but then always holds the series up as one of his favourites when asked. It blatantly isn't; compare his reactions while playing to that of a Telltale/David Cage game or something, where he's relatively chipper. However, he needs to wave his e-peen around, like anyone cares that you can beat Dark Souls in current year anyway.

Has anyone in any medium used getting a sponsor as some kind of event? Most people know having to read sponsorships or watch commercials are a nuisance to their viewers not a selling point. What good does having a sponsor on Mondays second stream do for anyone except Phil. Even his fans won't get what they tune in to see they get fake Phil putting on a performance just in case someone checks in on him. Shows how much he cares about those keeping him afloat that he will hold in the bitching and snorts for a fraction of the money they've given him.

I don't think this bounty stream is gonna be too interesting. In twitch TOS, you can be negative about the game as long as you aren't just shitting all over it. So Phil is gonna be super sanitized and will be in "gamer critique" mode.

I don't have high hopes, unless the game is something that Phil is absolute garbage at playing. I mean complete garbage. That might lead to some drama.

Well, and this is Phil's problem. When he plays a game he thinks he does constructive criticism or does a joke, when in reality he just makes intellectual fart noises. And after the stream is done he behaves like a proud king of awesomeness, because he's incapable of self reflecting.

For this very reason, right now, I BEG you people to not report him in any way that could let him cancel the shill stream. I want to see that! Don't deny my comedy! Let him completely fuck it up in his own way.

I think what is more likely is he'll just be largely mute. The first few shill streams will pass without incident, he'll be in full FakeSydeShill mode.

That last hour of Longshot with Phil was excellent. After all the checked out cutscene watching and obsession with piss jokes Phil is finally required to play the game. He has one objective, score a touchdown. Phil wants the experience to be over, so all he has to do to wrap up this miserable time is get that ball in the end zone.

At first, hes ACK ACK ACKing away when things don't go properly. But slowly it sets in, hes stuck here until he accomplishes the most basic task of football.

Double coverage, triple coverage, over the middle into... Jesus like six guys? Yep, that's where the ball should go. And then he bitches about how his receivers drop the pass after they get cleared out by a full speed linebacker concussing them. Its not Phil's fault, fuck you game, he pressed a button.

His refusal to even pretend to care or understand or improve was inpressive. He just kept getting saltier and saltier while contimuing to do the same things that weren't working.

Finally, he begsn complaining about how he should be allowed to let the ai run the ball. Basically, the game should take control away entirely so Phil could feel competent.

Its worth a watch at 2x speed in full, for high pitched Phil salt and also for encompassing the full circle of Phil's approach to games.
