The danganronpa LP thread was goddamn hilarious in retrospect and really telling in regards to sa’s userbase.

A guy doing a live-translated playthrough of a j-only weeb game unsurprisingly attracted weebs, prompting the LP forum to go members-only as a quick cash-grab. Cue people with accounts taking screenshots of the posts and sharing them on tumblr. Goons got indescribably butthurt over this and I wish it had been archived, since it was basically us-vs-them paranoid tribalism and death threats over people paying tenbux to view posts about an anime game. This went on for months, leading to wild accusations and ostracism of anyone viewed to be a person who joined just to read the DR thread.

That shit nearly killed slowbeef. He essentially had to mod it himself despite it being like the most active and popular thread on all of Something Awful at its peak. IIRC it's what led him to quit.

So if I've got this right someone used the term faggot in an ad, they got upset. Then one of us set up some more faggot ads and they don't know enough about Trolling to understand what's going on so took it at face value?

I only read the last ~20 pages of this thread or so and I have only basic knowledge on how shit Something Awful is, so forgive me if this is a stupid question. But why does that one sperg have an icon that says TRUMP LOVER? I'd get it if it were supposed to be some kind of ironic joke, but I can't help but feel like people would get up in arms over it regardless.

The ding dong rampart thread really was the catalyst for the abs9lute implosion of the LP forum. The funny thing about it is that it caused slowbeef to absolutely hate weeaboo.vidya, despite it being the type of thing that's normally right up his alley. I can't agree on the game being hypersexualized by and large though, but one of the highlights of that whole thread was when what was probably the most sexual image in the game got posted, and was met with 5+ pages of assblasted posts about it. The only thing that topped that was the actual thread locking shitstorm that occurred when one of the girl characters turned out to have a penis.

If you are too stupid to check a certain box on registering, you get an offensive avatar that you have to pay real money to change. The Trump one has been it for a long while now.

I think there is no way to avoid it now, it use to be that if you typed some text in for a quote or something in your avatar area it avoided the "Stupid Newbie" avatar.

Is that how people got the Stupid Newbie av? I've never had one at all, I just figured that was the default one everyone got as a way to get you to buy something else and they just forgot to give me the baby one when I joined.

Figured if I got overlooked for the dumb baby av, I wasn't about to speak up and get one.
