Diseased #Comicsgate - The Culture Wars Hit The Funny Books!

I just wanna know if that is all it takes to get a job at Marvel? Cause if so, give me Cuckbulski's number so i can call and pester him about how I am latino, and I should write for a Latino Marvel hero, cause representation. I have never ever written for a comic company, etc. Nor am I competent at being a writer of any genre in general, but why should that stop me?

Make sure you mention that you have the same hairstyle of the character you want to write. Then you've got the gig in the bag. Or go the easy route, pick Professor X, and shave your head.

OK, which one of you jokers photoshopped a wig on Onision?

Come off that shit. American superhero comics may be, but comics, period, are not.

Actually yes, yes they are. By very nature. Boys or males tend to be more visual. Girls tend to prefer the linguistic side. Comics are visual storytelling. They by nature skew more towards the male side of the equation. Even when using a visual medium. You tend to find women filmmakers tend to focus down on more intimate stories, without a lot of sweeping visuals or panoramic action. Yes there are exceptions to all things, but you don’t see a lot of women cinematographers. If you give the typical female filmmaker a camera you will get something trying to be a Hallmark movie. If you give most males a camera you will get something trying to be Michael Bay. I’m not saying one is better than the other. Just that differences do become apparent.

And yes there are tons of female Manga Ka. But even there traditionally the greater market remains Shonen stuff. Even where you do see deep penetration of female visual storytelling in Manga it tends to be more Hallmark then Michael Bay. Clamp is a great example of this. There are of course exceptions. The aforementioned Rumiko Takahashi being a great example of someone who can play off or blend both styles well. She’s a good writer who lets her characters speak to her, rather than inserting herself into her characters.

Especially when at last years comic-con wasn't there a revolt by store owners complaining about having to order pallet-loads of unsalable product driving them out of business being quickly given the Baghdad Bob treatment "Oh, some nasty cis white male shop owners don't like our wokeness, but they've been dealt with, carry on as normal, nothing is wrong in the industry, nothing at all!" ?

This fucking dick doesn't know Marvel FORCES comic book stores to buy minimum numbers of these shit comics and blacklists them if they don't.
Either he's ignorant about how Marvel bullies stores into bulk ordering a product no one wants or he "conveniently" forgot that little detail.

I am still trying to figure out why, of all characters, she went with Mockingbird. Was that a Bendis thing or did I miss something?

Mockingbird was and is the most obnoxious feminist bitch in the Marvel Universe (pre She-Thor). Surpassing even Carol Danvers, who over the years had had some redeeming human moments. Mockingbird was all emasculating bitch all the time! Plus she was a "rape survivor"! (They can't count Carol's as "Rape" because she refused to have the abortion, so not a "real feminist". And lets never mention Avengers #200 again!) As you can easily see, this is the character that Chelsea Cain most empathized with.

That was the second or third time she did that. I think in the first issue of her rebooted Ms. Marvel series Carol grabbed the new female MODOK "MODAM" hauled her into space and gleefully watched her die as well. Yep! The new face of the Marvel Universe is a complete Psycopath.

The YA community is positively fucked with social justic weirdos and minority promoting. They will destroy an author and their book if it doesn’t meet their diversity bingo or doesn’t check all the right boxes. Double so if the author doesn’t hire one of them to pre-screen the manuscript and make sure it’s sufficiently woke.

It’s pretty gross what’s happened to that community. It’s extemely toxic on twitter and tumblr.

Yeah, I read an article a few months ago that the YA community is basically devouring itself with perpetual witch hunts against any author claimed to be insufficiently progressive, whether it's true or not, often by their competitors. Here we go: https://archive.is/1VYaB

This is the end state of a community that's completely overrun with identity politics. It turns into a barrel full of piranhas with a squirt of blood in the water to get things started. People take turns being flogged by the mob for each and every transgression made.

A blonde thot suffocating everyone she meets?

The sad thing is reading the anti-CG twitter supergroups is actually more entertaining than the actual comic product being published by Marvel and DC these days.

And I know I keep harping on how clueless these morons are about business, while telling us we know nothing about “their” industry... but they make it so fucking easy. This clown is freaking out, “how can we call EVS the biggest thing in comics if he only has 8,500 customers! They won’t come back next month!” The dude just brought in half a million $$$ us, on what he up front calculated production costs to be ~$5000. He brought this in directly. No middle man. That’s 10-20 years worth of earnings for most industry professionals. He could live for 10 years on that alone. And that’s a Graphic Novel sale, of which the big publishers are lucky to sell 5k these days. He literally made nearly 1000 points margin on his book. Show me any other comic pros that have accomplished better? I’ll give you maybe Robert Kirkman and Rumiko Takahashi. But not many others.

Kirkman, and even he seems shocked by his consistent success is the only dude I can think of. The thing that probably infuriates the "pros" is this very fact. They think it's a flash in the pan, just the white dudebros rebelling when they themselves are all whiter than a fucking Daz commercial. It's a fad, a passing fancy etc etc.

But the question becomes... what if it's not? What then?

Same thing with Richard C Meyer. He managed to sell 2 books for a combined $500,000 within a three month period. And the first has started reaching customers hands this week. A crowd funded project that went from solicitation to delivery in under 6 months. At maybe 500 points margin. And guess what? This unknown dude that is literally a walking driving publicity factory and controversy magnet? With two IP’s, both of which are nice simple and straightforward, yeah somebody is going to option those. Heck I could see Blumhouse grabbing up Iron Sights and just hoping the crowds of protesting soy warriors show up to attract eyeballs and media attention. “The Comic They Don’t Want You To Read! The Movie They Don’t Want You To See! The Story Too Triggering For Your Gender Studies Professor!” Someone will make millions off of that.

What's happened then is they've pissed off the whales who were happily spending an average of $400-800 a month on comics merch. Dropping $50-90 every 3 months is nothing to these people. Literally nothing. We had one guy up thread who spent, what? 5-10k a year on shit? Instead s/he can spend $16 a month directly supporting a creator who's writing comics schlock and get a pretty sweet looking graphic novel out of it every 3 months or so.

The thing that enrages the pros is their "neat new stories" don't fucking sell because they gut common sense storytelling to try and be artsy or whatever the fuck goes through their broken brains.

If Meyer wanted to really throw some shade (and chances are his half million dollar success suggests he will) then the next project should involve some outright tank parking by having the storyline involving some nominally "woke" character like a married gay guy as the lead or something and it be the simple background moment it should be.

This fucking dick doesn't know Marvel FORCES comic book stores to buy minimum numbers of these shit comics and blacklists them if they don't.

Because "officially" Marvel does not force anyone to overstock their shitty ass comics. Nope. Never happens. They offer an "incentive" instead on buying and promoting #1s and crossover comics.

I mean, threatening to blacklist you from buying any of their shit is an "incentive", after all. Just not a very good one that is slowly costing them any business.

This is almost certainly a bit of bad writting which wasnt considered as part of her wider characterization, but it would certainly explain a lot of Carols more interesting decisions. Even if she's trying to supress or rationalize it we're talking about the fact Captain Marvel genuinly enjoys watching living creature slowly die in a great deal of fear and pain.

Just imagine through the entire of civil that in every scene something awful happens the reason she's powering through the horrible fall out is because she doesnt actually feel very bad about what happens, and might actually be enjoying it on some level.

But that'd require competent writing.

Marvel doesn't want that.

I mean imagine it, an actual superhero who gets off on the chaos and the bad things which happen and which they could get away with because they crave the danger. They like and even get off on the power they have over most regular people and even some bad guys.

Y'know, like the modern Watson in Sherlock Holmes where John actually craves the adventure and danger again to the point he had a phantom limp from the time he got grazed in Afghanistan.

It's a little worse since she isnt just a adrenaline junkie, she's full blown sadist.

This would be a really great bit of character and would really flesh her out, especially if she's terrified of that part of herself and was actively trying to supress it. All kinds of plot points where she has to second guess herself whenever she has to use violence. But the idea of Marvels big sjw push being a deeply flawed person won't pass. Which is a real shame considering that's origionally what made Marvel heroes stand out over their DC counterparts-they where dumb flawed people.

I think we can sum up most of Marvel's Comics as "Missed open goals". The good, open stories that would get people actually interested just get left by the wayside so the white people can get wokeness points from other white people and their one black friend with a chip on their shoulder as wide as the Atlantic.

It would certainly help Brie Larson's rangeless Captain Marvel if she comes across as emotionless because she's actively trying to suppress the fact she's a sadist who wants to watch people die in space or would rather fix problems by skipping the "justice" part by pushing for "poetic justice". Like plenty of people never really notice until say, Stark or Vision really watches her and notices the only real time she has a "true face" is when she's grinding some bad guy's face into a wall over and over or how certain individuals she deals with simply go missing because she takes them into space, watches them die of asphyxiation and then pushes them away from Earth.
