Moved! Hope everything's all good now.

In other news, Memology101 uploaded a new video on the saga. I'll edit the OP to include it, but I'll also link it here.
It seems Pewdiepie has caught wind of the fiasco too.

Pewdiepie proves yet again that he is actually the most mature person on Youtube. Here's Pediepie's full video on the matter.

I think someone outta tell simpleflips. He's an innocent in all of this, I can verify his claims of helping people. He had an open offer to help others pinned to all his shit for like 2 years. The dude probably took a quick glance over it and was happy to have them take the burden off of him.

Isn't this the service that Amberlynn claims diagnosed her with her 550lbs justifying binge eating disorder? She stopped talking about her online therapist pretty fucking fast once people started emailing the service saying her counselor was violating the TOS (Because surely Big Al would never lie)

this discussion originally started in the YT general autism thread. (by yours truly)

i'll repeat what i said there: what's so sick and pernicious about this scam is that it's targeting weak-minded children, convincing them that they have a mental disorder, and encouraging them to purchase an e-fix.

any responsible youtuber (or anyone with an audience) with fans who are struggling with mental health issues should tell them, "talk to your parents; talk to your friends; consider counseling; join a therapy group" or any other piece of level-headed advice one would presumably give to a struggling kid.

i sincerely hope that the market will punish this bad behavior, and the fact that pewdiepie is talking about it reinforces my cautious optimism.

bit unrelated but, I dont fucking understand Defranco's appeal.
guy became rich by being a fence sitter. At lest pewdipie even if still horrible, had the balls to do whatever he wanted to say or do, unlike him.
It's easy to be a fence sitter when you try to not push too far one way or another to split your general audience. But when it comes to evil corporations, criminals, pedophiles, or people doing terrible shit, Defranco expresses his full disgust as if it's some kind of hard stance he's taking. Naturally, 99.9% of his general audience will be on his side for taking that hard stance.

I have been watching some of Kati Morton's videos lately, it all seemed normal, but this cunt is a psychopath scammer of depressed people. Holy shit, you really can't trust anyone nowadays.

I never liked psychologists, and every day my disdain for them is slowly turning into hate. Fuck these "professionals".

Great thread, it needs to be viralized.

The thing that I find really bizarro is that she has a 500k+ channel, yet when you look at her videos, the VAST MAJORITY are not even breaking 50k views. Even some of her collaboration videos with some notable channels, like having Jacksepticeye in her video and vice-versa, don't break 500k views.

I don't think that she's manipulating the system, but has more like gotten popular off of a select number of her videos going viral in the past.

Youtubers are depressed because they're the kind of people who are complicit in scams like this: attention-seekers just looking for the next hustle, able to understand people enough to exploit them but not enough to form meaningful connections. They live in such a way that their lives are products to sell and everybody they encounter is a potential mark. It nets them plenty of fans, but those people are just customers of their cultivated e-personas, not actual friends. Fame is alienating but internet fame, for them basically mass e-grifting, must be intensely lonely.

Feels like many of the youtubers are breaking some uk laws, not sure about any other laws yet or laws in other countries but will try to look into them.

"“Marketers must not discourage essential treatment for conditions for which medical supervision should be sought. For example, they must not offer specific advice on, diagnosis of or treatment for such conditions unless that advice, diagnosis or treatment is conducted under the supervision of a suitably qualified health professional. Accurate and responsible general information about such conditions may, however, be offered."

Some good information about ethical issues in this page

"When she brought her concerns to the company's clinical director and owners, none of whom are psychologists, she says they brushed off her concerns, and then eventually blocked her from messaging with her clients. "It all seemed more financially driven, rather than care driven,"

That much was clear from them saying "we do not vet our counselors/check their backgrounds/qualifications" in the fine print but plastering that all of them are licensed on their ads.

The worst part about her is now that she's now claiming to be bullied just because she received backlash for promoting Betterhelp.

Speaking of Betterhelp, I am surprised and then not at this revelation. I debated on trying it out, but quickly noped out of it due to the pricing (in total). Seems I definitely dodged a bullet.

Honestly if it worked as they claimed - that is, access to a therapist 24/7 - even their priciest plan of $85/wk would be worth it for high risk individuals.

This is even worse then the candid debacle. Not just in scale but in griminess. I had no idea how deep the hole went until I saw it on Memeology 101.

Shouldn't there be some reprocussions?

It's going to be interesting who chooses to cover this and what effect it will have (if any). A lot of "Youtube Police" channels like Idubbz, H3H3 and Nerd City have ties to Youtubers that have been shilling Better Help.

Where's Filthy Frank when you need him? :(

I always had the suspicion that this service was too good to be true.

I first heard about it in Gibi ASMR's videos, which I'm now disappointed that she promotes this garbage service. She does the best weeb-y ASMR videos out there, but this is just sad.

heres some archive links for the videos and pages @melon
