Diseased #Comicsgate - The Culture Wars Hit The Funny Books!

What is that though?
He hates Rob Liefeld

Ya boi has done it again, mass triggering from his latest 'unstoppable wasp' review. In it he states that 'gender parity' pushers only want it in fields that are seen as trendy or lucrative, aint no-one want it in ditch digging or sewer swimming (SJW Spiderman of course cuts this from his shocking footage) and that women PREFER soft sciences and in hard science nobody cares about your feelings, people want results.
Notice how he can only put quotes around a max of three words.

Also 'wuv da science' is an ongoing bit of his and it is aimed at people who will post/retweet dumb stuff like this image or proclaim their love of 'science' despite never participating in it or reading a scientific article.

Multiple versions of this tweet, funny how they cant' name current year scientists also Anthropology and Primatology are soft science. Also multiple versions of 'Oh yeah, well there were women in my STEM class'.

References the IT Crowd - you know, that show where IT geeks who know all about computers get a woman boss who lied about her credentials and knows nothing about IT at all and keeps her job to be the face/people person

Mags chimed in, of course nowhere in the video does he state women are too emotional to be scientists

Somebody tries to reason with mags, is ignored and an idiot chimes in with - no it's only due to sexism

That evil CERN scientist that was suspended had hyperlinks in his presentation to prove his case. Nobody refuted his claims, just shrieked until he and the offending presentation slides were gone.

:powerlevel:I had a female friend who studied in a STEM major and while she did personally wanted more women in the STEM field and that women and men in her major were treated differently (such as the professors being more protective towards the women), she gave off the vibe that the sexism there was caused by the gender imbalance, not the opposite.

How many books do we need about child and/or female scientists? Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, The Wasp, Squirrel Girl, Shitty Asian Hulk and Ironheart are still in publication. Before that you also had Chelsea Cain's laughable attempt to make Mockingbird a scientist. I understand that the classic heroes were also scientists, but their science credentials usually tied into their origins and storylines. Bruce Banner being a nuclear physicist was important to his origin, but almost immediately forgotten because it doesn't matter if the raging green monster tearing shit up understands the properties of an atom. Spider-Man was into biology(?) in high school, but it only mattered to the extent that it led to him getting bit by a radioactive spider. What does computer science have to do with Squirrel Girl? How does whatever the fuck the Wasp is into play into her origin as an assassin trained by the Russians?

  • 12:25: My recommendations: Bombshells, Bitch Planet, Saga (?), Sex Criminals (????????)

This is the exact list of titles I would come up with if I were pretending to be a woman.

"Fake geek girl" has double the sting for someone who isn't just a fake geek but a fake girl as well.
I never understood the anger at that term, do they think it's not an actual phenomenon of people running their mouths off about things they barely know? It's not even a female exclusive thing as evidenced by people like MovieBob existing who also skims Wikipedia articles to act smug. It can be annoying but I don't see how you can claim they don't exist.

The term is only female because of cosplayers who'd do shit like take a photo of them playing a Playstation with a Nintento controller due to being unfamiliar with hardware. A lot of MCU articles are written by people who don't get it's a separate entity from the comics and assume characters are mostly 1:1.

Have they never seen that one "cool" guy who claims mastery of every topic you bring up despite actually being a sham?

I think as with a lot of things that are only arguably sexist (or even blatantly not sexist) this is the result of white knighting. It's not the hot actress who puts on a pair of granny glasses and a tit-hugging Zelda t-shirt for a YouTube series for a paycheck who's offended by being called a "fake geek girl," it's the legions of thirsty gamma males who are stepping up to defend Milady.

The seems reasonable. It's the "girl" part of that phrase that usually pisses people off. The only arguments directed towards the "fake geek" part are usually about the implication that their favorite medium is "illegitimate". That is understandable but I think most can get fans of comic Batman, Adam West, and Nolan trilogy are not fans of the same thing, they're different mediums and take the premise in different directions.

"Fake geek girl" is just catchier then the more accurate "Guy who just guesses the plot based on cover and back of the book". We'll never really know how they'd respond to it in a world where there was no "girl" in it.

You get the same thing with the term virtue signaling where they act like it isn't a thing that exists despite there being a sjw approved version of it (performative allyship) and it being mentioned as far back as biblical times (""When you pray, don't be like the hypocrites who love to pray publicly on street corners and in the synagogues where everyone can see them").

You mentioned that the majority of the anger is over the "girl" part and while I agree that's true, there are still articles about how you can't police another person's fandom or how the various fandoms need to be more inclusive in a general sense. They are calmer about it, but they still push the "I'm a fan if I say I'm a fan, so make room for me" doctrine.

Perhaps I'm cynical, but it all just seems like another way to control people's words and the narrative, exert power and give marching orders to dimwits.

I think we know. Because 'mansplaining' is roughly the same thing. Like most things in the SJW sphere, there is/was an actual trend of exceptional autists who couldn't believe women could actually be into nerd stuff and were big into gatekeeping. But rather than them being treated like the speds they are, they were treated as representative of all nerds, and this subsequently was used to invalidate the very real trend of women faking their interest in this sort of thing for attention.

And then after that it was also done so they could have their criticisms considered to be coming from 'a real geek', rather than what was often the case - the standard SJW tactic of muscling into an arena and demanding everything bend to their wishes.

Basically, this article would be considered a hate crime now.

The most insufferable thing about these cunts is they're almost invariably calling people "Nazis" who should be "punched" for having views, or just laughing about things they did themselves often mere months ago. Nobody would have had the slightest problem with that Onion article when it was written, but now it would be "dehumanizing" and the author would be hounded out of his job for being GAYMERGAAAAAATE REEEEEE.

The other part of it that nerd cred has always been measured by who knows the most obscure details about a given nerd title and who’s got the biggest collection, to the point that it’s kind of an in-joke that nerds will grill each other about that trivia. So when a combination of the internet, comic book movies, and the mainstreaming of Comic Con made nerdom appear more accessible and popular, a lot of those bandwagon jumping cosplayers and chicks who acted that writing fanfics about the Avengers/looking at contextless panels on Tumblr was the same as knowing everything about the Avengers comics got their shit wrecked when clashing with that culture of trivia grilling.

I think for that reason the term “fake geek girl” just caught on a lot more just because the male counterparts tend to not be as visible. Male posers in my experience will at most buy some overpriced T-shirts and keep to themselves if they go to cons, while the poser chicks tend to be the ones who blast their alleged nerd-cred all over social media and are at the forefront of demands that the media/genres they supposedly love need to change core elements in order to better cater to them.

I know many of us were watching Jim's stream tonight and bathing in the related drama (a slow-motion trainwreck crashing into a garbage fire at the intersection of satanic leylines on the site of a haunted Donga tribe burial ground), but there was some good entertainment on Van Sciver's stream tonight, starting at around 44:13. I haven't been able to watch all of it yet, but the bits I've seen so far have been hilarious.

Apparently there's a British couple that started a campaign for a book under the ComicsGate banner, and they wanted to get on one of Van Sciver's streams to promote it. When they weren't able to get through to him (probably because they're relative nobodies), they decided to create three videos in the last day, about 40 minutes total, whining about his gatekeeping. They were able to get on Malin's stream, but interpreted his critique of their work as "derision," even though they were cordial to him on the actual stream. The couple's vids show an almost comical level of USI; the man postulates that Van Sciver wouldn't platform them because he's threatened by their work, and the woman keeps talking about her experience with "international business" and how that will propel their campaigns to success. The posh British accents don't help. In fact, it might all just be some sort of high-effort troll… And ironically, near the end of the stream, Ethan does say he'd like to invite them on to talk things out, so they've finally succeeded in getting his attention, at least. I hope all of them follow through, because if this isn't all just a troll, there's some great comedic potential here.

:story: @Jub-Jub They really are trying so hard:

When do you guys think they'll realize that he already cashed out?

Never heard of them before.

Antonio Brice released a video this morning about his own dealings with these people, because apparently they were DMing him and trying to get on one of his streams too, despite the fact that he doesn't have his own comic-related stream. He actually spills his spaghetti a little bit at the whole situation. Brice himself only came to EVS's attention by basically pestering him on Twitter until senpai noticed him, but he didn't give up when it didn't work at first.

(ETA: This boomer might be mis-using the term "spills his spaghetti." It means "loses his cool," right?)

Here's their campaign, by the way. They have an absolutely massive amount of art on that page; possibly the entire book, though most pages aren't colored or lettered. So it looks like they put in a decent amount of work on their book so far, but then got salty when they couldn't get a short-cut to promoting it.

Just watch - if they can't use Ethan to get what they want, they're going to "switch sides" and start acting like they were anti CG the whole time. They'll make claims that they "heard" EVS saying racist/homophobic things (but won't present any proof, of course), and starting pushing their GoFundMe/Patreon links among the Anti crowd.

There were a few opportunists who tried to get away with that shit at the early days of Gamergate, so I won't be surprised if autistic history repeats itself.

Oh, man. And if these people turn out to be black or Muslim or some other "protected class," that will just be a perfect storm, won't it? God help us.

They've released another video where they continue to criticize Ethan, so either they didn't hear about his olive branch or they're ignoring it. They're still not even taking the clue (or making the effort) to sell their book rather than engage in drama, or even just link to their campaign in the video description. Damn, I've made more effort on this board to sell these people's book than they have on their own channel.

LOL, ComicsGate is "languishing in obscurity". Yet milkshake girls can't stop obsessing about them. Usually when women give you that level of attention, it means they're positively smitten with you.

And it feels like this is just the prequel to be honest. Once comics start shipping out and more and more people decide to say fuck it to social justice comics cliques and self publish directly, we're going to have a lot more coming out via comicsgate associations.

Have to autistically correct this; Black Widow was the spy for the KGB, Wasp was the daughter of a scientific buddy of Hank Pym that he couldn't save and due to his brain problems (partially caused by his first wife being murdered by the KGB for being a Hungarian dissident, partially not explained fully at this point) slowly fell in love with. I know this due to being crazy enough to own the Essential Ant-Man compendium that collected the Tales to Astonish comics he was in.

And it seems the speds finally have begun to ooze into CG when it was realized that you can profit on it. Lovely.

He's talking about the new Wasp named Nadia. It was revealed Pym's first wife was pregnant and that child was raised to be a Black Widow...except she has this bubbly generic girl personality which seems odd.
