How about the whole Celebrinando thing?

Guy sends death threats to Anita. Media spins it as being part of #GamerGate. #GamerGate members find evidence that he's a third party and just hates her. #GamerGate does its best to spread the news out. Anita doesn't want to report it - doesn't want to make it clear she wants this guy gone.

How is #GamerGate in the wrong here?

You mean like reporting troll/doxxing accounts, tracking down that guy who sent death threats to Literally Who 2 (and subsequently getting blocked by her, which shows just how bullshit the "harrassment" angle really is) and the Harrassment Patrol (which I personally think is completely ridiculous)?
Yeah, that stuff's great. It's just hard to claim that you're the only gamergaters out there. Reasonable gamergaters could just happen to be a small minority.

Not that there won't be bias, there obviously would be, but if you can demonstrate a history of disassociating official work from troll behavior, that's a huge asset.
We can demonstrate a history of disassociating troll behavior perfectly fine right now actually, I could have sworn we've proved that to you several times now.

Someone death threatened Anita. GamerGate tracked down the person and reported them. She blocked us for that.
Same thing with Zoe. She actually thanked us.
Every GG community discounts and ostracizes anyone who wants to harass. We can prove this as its in the rules for every community.

We don't need a new name when this one is perfectly capable of defending itself.

No, I believe that. Just... I still can't tell if reasonable people aren't just a tiny minority or not.

And Anita went to Days of the Devs, which featured such people like Tim Schafer, Nathan Grayson, and the most hip and happenin' DJ of all.

He looks like a poor man's Johnny Depp.

That's easy. Go to the Gamergate discussion thread on /v/ and post a plan to harrass/dox some famous Anti-GG figurehead (one of the Literally Whos, for example). See how many replies don't call you some variation of shill or tell you to fuck off.

Are we going to have to rename this the "Arguing with Marvin" thread?

Arguing with someone with an opposing viewpoint isn't a bad thing.

The media can smear a single person, who has completely centralized name and complete control over his own actions. What makes you think an official organization would do any better?
It's not "centralized names are impossible to attack", it's "centralized names are way easier to defend than decentralized ones".

It is a strawman in this circumstance. Spend five minutes looking through any of the discussion sites and you will see that the majority of us are not the minority as you're afraid of.
I don't know how that relates to the trolls, extent-wise.

Now that's an interesting idea.

Fuck, if he doesn't I will just to illustrate a point.

Marvin, honest question here.

How much harassment have you seen, with your own eyes, outside the media itself? How much wasn't claims of harassment, but actual harassment? And how much was legit harassment, and not like the email Brianna Wu received?

How much of what you know of #GamerGate isn't from what other people told you, but that you witnessed yourself?

I'll agree with the first paragraph, but I'm going to disagree with the second. Here's why: we've seen this playbook a few times since its inception. They would have claimed misogyny and harassment even if the harassment (the bulk of which we now know to be false flagging) hadn't been pushed to the fore for a while. Quinn broke out accusations of Misogyny and the like as far back as TFYC scandal, and that was before the FiveGuys part of the equation even broke. Further, this is all part of the same so-called SJW playbook that every single fucking one of them pulls from. We've seen it during the Atheism+ thing, we've seen it from the fact that any legitimate criticism of serial assholes like Leigh Alexander and Anita Sarkeesian is literally labelled Misogyny by default (even if you simply disagree), and we've seen it, perhaps most tellingly, from the many, many so-called SJWs and Tumblrfags that the CWCki has looked at. They all pull from the same tactic: Criticize at all, be labelled a Misogynist, Albeist, Transphobic, and worse.

There was no way to stop that. Not when all of them use that tactic religiously.

They would have claimed misogyny, yes, but had the initial backlash been toward Quinn, the guy she supposedly boinked to get a better review, and Kotaku in equal proportion, that claim would have quickly fallen apart under closer scrutiny and they wouldn't have gotten nearly as much mileage out of the resulting mess. The backlash that we actually did get was aimed far too much at Quinn, and it's continued to cast a shadow over GamerGate even after it organized into a coherent campaign with real goals, rather than just being a bunch of screaming manchildren.

That's why I get the impression that this thing is going to drag out for quite some time, so that those who legitimately care about GG can continue plugging at it, while the idiots using it as an excuse to act like dicks toward women will get bored, move onto something else and eventually be forgotten.
