Waid is 56 years old and as stated in his interview with EVS, he considers himself privileged for it and one of the reasons he needs to "stand up" for SocJus approved groups.

Also it drives me up the wall when people like Waid use the word "troll" incorrectly. It implies some kind of trickery in what they were doing. Just shouting "MARK WAID SUCKS" is not "lol ebic trol XD" and you should feel bad for saying that.

Technically Waid's partner was Shannon's Fiance, now Husband Jason. So yeah as you say Waid dancing around the issue. She was clearly involved. Also I remain confused because I have seen the woman who Waid supposedly turned the store over to described as both simply his girlfriend and as his now ex wife?

So this article was apparently incorrect about Blanch being his wife or former wife. But then why did Waid give ownership of the shop to Blanch? If it were part of a divorce settlement, that'd be one thing, but otherwise, would it just be some sort of palimony thing?

It is provably false, and what is more, the events Waid lied about transpired entirely in public and the evidence of it was readily available. Waid either knew what he was saying was false, or acted with reckless disregard as to its truth or falsity, doing nothing to verify whether his statements were truthful, which is an inevitable inference from the fact that even the most cursory examination of what happened would have shown that the claims were outright false.

I think this would be a hard argument, as many people immediately responded to the Facebook and twitter postings and called out his statements for being lies / corrected him. The fact that he went on repeating the lie for months afterwards...

I bet when he first took the case he was thinking this would be another one of those bog standard industry contract dispute shenanigans where both sides scrap it out for a few months before quietly settling and paying their lawyers a couple large dimes. Not anymore!

Comicsgate and Ya Boi in particular have definitely tapped into the culture war writ large. There are people who follow this that have never read a comic book in their life, but are invested in the larger social conflict. I would not be surprised if one of those big anonymous donations came from a conservative activist like Dennis Prageur. The folks at clownfish TV opined accurately that the biggest advantage comicsgate has over the industry is the industry is staffed by broke commies while comicsgate is headed by capitalist Republicans who have money.

Sorry for the shit screencap, could not find a link to "Amanda" from Scotland's post about Waid's harassment. It seemed a bit odd and out of the woodwork, and I'll even give Mark the benefit of the doubt without further proof. But I find it interesting that he claims he's accused of making phone calls to this unnamed university in Scotland, when she states he just had her kicked out. Nothing about phone calls. Could be nothing, or could be another example of Waid's own words coming back to bite him.

The funny thing about Waid's response to the allegations is that a key tenet of SocJus is "Listen and Believe" when it comes to minorities. I would be willing to bet that Waid was among those we was shouting, "Believe all women!" during the Kavanaugh confirmation and now changes his tune when two women have come out with allegations about his abhorrent behavior. If he truly believed in Social Justice, should he have not prostrated himself before the Supreme Court of SocJus and begged for forgiveness for being an old white male who abused minorities? The double standard here reveals a lot about the man's character. This is not about defending women/PoCs/LGBT. This is about covering his own ass after his temper and hubris finally caught up with him.

I am seriously hoping that the judge who presides over this case can see that. Additionally, I very much hope Waid and his lawyer take this exceptional behavior to the courtroom to continue hammering the nails into his coffin. In short, get rekt, Waid. Hell, I wonder if the judge can award Meyer more than the $75,000 asked.

Most definitely. The $75,000 figure is just there to ensure the case qualifies for diversity jurisdiction in a Federal court -- it means the complaining party in good faith believes there is at least that amount at stake. Now, the judgment could be for less than that as well. It's not an estimate of how much damage was done, just an assertion that such an amount is in controversy.

(@AnOminous, who is clearly more up on this stuff than I am, will no doubt pop in to correct me, which I always appreciate.)

thats correct, an amount of 75000 dollars is required for diversity jurisdiction, and this has to be a good faith claim. I think Meyers does have a good faith claim that he believes he has suffered that much in damages. He could get more, or he could get less.
