Unless you're a big name, you sign what they put in front of you or fuck off. Of course, Waid actually has been a big name.
True, but after doing a bit of digging I can't seem to pin down what royalties Waid would have. This article seems to indicate that Waid doesn't get a whole lot from DC, and I can't seem to find anything about what potential royalties he gets from Marvel. The general consensus seems to be while the shrewder big name creators might still seem to be able to draft up a contract that allows them to keep their rights, but most still go with work-for-hire contracts that just have a higher payout than the newbies and hipsters. The real money seems to be when they get positions as editors or as producers and executive producers over at Marvel Entertainment.

It's why I also side-eye the CGers in insist that the influx of diversity characters like Riri and such are writers trying to get a Donut Steel out in the wild for potential movie royalties. All the evidence I'm finding so far seems to say that writers likely wouldn't even get leftover breadcrumbs even if Disney decides to use their characters.

This just isn't going to happen. They use these other legacy characters because they're known outside of nerd circles. There is just no market for characters who aren't even known outside of nerd circles, and are utterly despised by the few people who have even heard of them, and not bought by the few people who claim they care about them.

Certainly doesn't stop Marvel's animation division from trying to shove these characters into the forefront on Disney's channels though.

The way I see it, it's not so much that these characters are not well known as much as they have a stigma attached to them. The MCU took a big gamble with c-list Marvel characters and it paid off. Before it, no one in the general public really gave two shits about Iron Man or Thor or the Guardians of the Galaxy etc. but I don't believe anyone in the comic book community (and I mean the real comic book community, not the autistic blue check marks over at Twitter) was opposed to movies being made about them.

Riri Williams? America Chavez? Kamala Khan? These characters are not just unknown, they are loathed by the actual customers that kept Marvel Comics' blood pumping. No matter how much the left-leaning, SJW friendly mainstream media may try to convince people otherwise, these characters are failing, and the crowd that financially supports them are clearly a minority. A loud, obnoxious minority, but a minority nonetheless. Otherwise their books wouldn't keep tanking and getting cancelled.

A loud, obnoxious minority who, moreover, wouldn't be caught dead rubbing shoulders with the people they look down on who go to comic books stores and actually buy things. They might encounter someone with a penis who doesn't want to cut it off.

I finally got around to read Irredeemable and it's telling to see how Mark Waid has sort of become like the Plutonian himself.

Once an extremely beloved, pristine hero that out of the blue and for very petty reasons turned into a violent sociopathic villain that kept blaming everyone but himself for his actions. And once you dig in his character and past you realize he's always had those violent, emotionally unstable tendencies in him and was just keeping them bottled in until they bursted out.

But hell, even by the last issues of that series the Plutonian gained a bit of remorse and self-acknowledgement of his actions and the monster he had become, Waid will keep thinking he's the good guy and victim to his dying day.
By the way there's a sequel called Incorruptible that has Supervkllain Max Damage change from
go from an utter monster that steal a jar that is described by a scientist as apocalypse in a jar but then the Plutonian arrive and does his massacre which was so awful the Max Damage becomes a hero

I think the Captain Marvel movie is going to be the real test of this proposition. The character (as currently written) is loathed, but they'll be handing it to actual professional writers and probably throwing out the most egregious nonsense from the comics.

They already threw out everything except the name (which originally wasn't her's) and are making it a completely new origin for her. The real test will be if it wont be a borefest, trailer didn't give me much confidence.

As pointed out by @neural on the last page, EVS received several text messages from Waid over the weekend. Today those messages helped kickstart an all day Twitter fight between EVS and Zaid himself.

I believe the NOW NOW NOW messages were from the time Waid was on EVS's stream, that was sometime in 2017.

Is it still being released on Wahman's day?
First Wahman superhero movie, releases on Wahmans day and shows how strong, powerful and way better Wahman are, especially when compared to those stupid, stinky men. Anybody who doesn't like it suffers from muhsoggyknee and is an alt-right Russian bot, truly a life changing film providing a strong voice for the poundmetoo generation.
Critics 5/5 97% Audience 3/5 65%.

I'm guessing it will get ~750million WW box office. Stronger than Ant Man and the Wasp due to first marvel female lead and huge publicity from that and woman's day. Less than Wonder Woman because it looks like a shittier film.

Did he receive new messages? because the FIX. THIS. NOW messages are from last year, after the MW interview on EVS YouTube Channel. Still funny to see Zaid waste Waid's money arguing on the internet

Thanks for the info. I edited my post to reflect that.

I think Zaid needs to be watched too because he might go somewhere between lolcalf to Landau 2.0

:offtopic: I was wrong about a detail i said about incorruptible, it's not a sequel but a spinoff that add to the story of Incorruptible

Reminds me of Incredibles 2. All the critics collectively ejaculated over it for how feminist and gurrrrl power it was and "OMG they gave Elastigirl a lesbian fangirl!" and none of them seemed interested in taking off their sociopolitical goggles just for a second to review it properly as a film. Meanwhile me and most of my friends agreed it was a dull, predictable, uninspired disappointment and nowhere near as good as the first movie was.

They did the same shit with Last Jedi as well.

I'm not convinced he actually believes in any of the bizarre causes he signs onto. I think he's there just to get his name in the headlines and make tons of money telling modern-day Captain Ahabs to take one more swing at their white whale.
