Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

Concept art is almost always cooler than the crap we actually end up with.
Well yeah, it's been that way since NES. The whole point is just to show the artist's vision/dev's interpretation. That's why the whole "MN9 LOOKS NOTHING LIKE THE CONCEPT ART" shit is stupid, but the game itself was still smelly dogshit

Concept art tends to be somewhat abstract and loose. Like the artist didn't really think about "how is this going to be in the game?" If you've ever tried to make 3D art it's challenging to translate a floating castle into a polygon.

The last of us is way too overrated.
I heard besides being a masterpieces in terms of gameplay, it's also a cinematic masterpiece and I whole heatedly disagree, it's average as zombie games go.
I've beaten it at least five times and I agree. (beat it out of boredom)

The PSP was a milquetoast console with grindy, barely playable games with often broken POV cameras and terrible control schemes. Turn-based and sports games were the only thing that kind of worked, and I 100% would rather play those on PC or PS3 anyways.

E: Its only redeeming factor is the fact you could hack it and load it up with emulators and any shitty game you wanted.

I only ever played nes, genesis and ps1 games on my psp go, and compilations like capcom classics collection remixed and reloaded

The Uncharted games are extremely mediocre.

Uncharted had a story? I thought it was just a dude going in the jungle to find a lost family heirloom. And the photographer wants to make money off it.

I actually kind of enjoy Jaws Unleashed. It's a stupid ass game that spits in the face of Ecco the Dolphin's legacy, but it's also stupidly fun.
I remember that game. It was dumb fun at the time for a second. Then became shovelware.

Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction > Ratchet & Clank (2016). I loved the more mature direction it went from PS2 to PS3. I wish it was treated as a retcon of sorts than a sequel.

I think we're unlikely to see CP2077 before 2020/2021. CDPR made 90 gorillian dollars off The Witcher 3 and got a massive grant from the Polish government so they have no incentive to release it anytime soon.

Because sperging about on the internet is gonna make it all better, right? Nothing says "cares about the working man" like a pampered bitch autistically screeching in front of a keyboard. Go back to ResetEra, I'm sure the "capitalism is killing gaming" thread misses you dearly.

P.S.: While the Housers are probably assholes and do deserve much of the blame, you can't forget that Take-Two's "neckbreathing" is probably the biggest reason as to why it happened. The Housers may be douchebags, but Take-Two is legitimately evil.

On to my unpopular opinion: I actually kind of enjoy Jaws Unleashed. It's a stupid ass game that spits in the face of Ecco the Dolphin's legacy, but it's also stupidly fun. It's difficult to not be amused by the fact that this big fucking shark that was killed by a fucking spear in the original movie is now a criminal mastermind capable of navigating minefields, using keycards, battling killer whales and using old torpedos to blow up ships, helicopters, and oil derricks. It's by no means well made, but goddamn does it entertain me
The shark in Jaws was killed by a high pressure barrel explosion and a police chief with an M1 Garand. Have you even seen the movie?

Some of these have been said already, but:
I couldn't get into Deus Ex. But I tried to play it after loving Human Revolution so going so far back in terms of some of the mechanics and the graphics was a stumbling block.
Speaking of Human Revolution,
I loved everything about the game (I even liked the boss battles) except for the three-choice ending. I wanted a noir ending, where you reveal all the shady bullshit you've found out about from all sides, damn the consequences. Instead there was 'hide some mass-murder for the good of augments', 'hide some shit to side with the anti-augments you've been against all game so why would you', and 'kill them all, including yourself, because reasons'. All the other stuff in the game that you could decide for yourself, but none of the choices were the ending I thought the game deserved.

I also couldn't get into Dragon Age, and got bored quite early. For me, those sorts of games start with me getting involved in the world and the requirements, and the magic starts to wear off when I stop thinking in terms of game world and start thinking in terms of pure mechanics. And that happened right at the start of Dragon Age for me; I never saw the possibilities, only the part where you want to find out the best routes and preferred outcomes.

Related, I don't like games like Dragon Age, Dungeon Siege, Neverwinter Nights or Bladur's Gate where you control a party of people but have real-time combat. Especially when they're full NPCs like Skyrim, so they have a habit of doing something stupid and getting everything killed. I found the programming-the-NPCs aspect of Dragon Age too confusing, and the flurry of action in the isometric games too unlike the idea of D&D. And yet, I don't particularly like JRPGs either. I want to do the D&D party experience, I enjoyed Wizardry games back in the day, but I've only really liked it in Troika games like Arcanum and Temple of Elemental Evil.

I'm also a PC-only gamer, so while I appreciate there are mods, the fact that there can be so many can be overwhelming, especially when people start saying you need this or that one to get the best experience for the game and you have to spend days on Nexus figuring out what the fuck you need to download, and then try to get them working together. That being said, after modding the experience system I preferred Oblivion over Skyrim. Even though it has something else I hate, which is an unwinnable battle at a point when your character could totally win it if you had player control, but they have a plot they want to process so you have to lose even if you wouldn't.

Other things. Some of the most fun I've had is with browser games. I don't buy games for at least a year, when they're on sale and have some of the now-guaranteed bugs ironed out, so I don't get pre-ordering. I'd be excited for vanilla WoW if I ever let myself play it again, but I found it too addictive. Fans can drive me away from games by being too spergy, and I've definitely liked games less because of their fanbases. I only liked the first Sims. And I don't mind micro-transactions if they're only for cosmetic stuff because I'm happy to ignore that, though if you can reasonably earn the currency in game that's better than being purely pay-to-win.

I was even for his argument that Rockstar was doing was very bad, but had to remind him that it's very common that plenty of Triple A developers work extra hours and even more to meet the quota. In response he tells me to point out other developers that did something very similar, I say that Bungie did the same shit to their own developers to meet the quota for Halo 2 and added a little bit of info on how Konami would make reviewers go through boot camp to say only positive things about MGS5 and other previous titles, he immediately dismisses the Konami part because Japanese law are different therefore it's out of the argument only for him to go an on autistic crusade against the evil Western developers. No point in arguing with a brick wall.
