The last time 3rd party trolls were brought up, it was Fatt Jarbo trying to cover his ass, only to get exposed on livestream as a massive flaggot. His video consisted of him ranting about how I had obviously slept with someone for good reviews, since one of the "five guys" from The Ex's manifesto was a writer for the gaming site Kotaku. There was no proof of this supposed illegitimately obtained review, just repetition of the Manifesto's accusations mixed with such conspiratorial conjecture that it would make someone wearing a tinfoil hat instantly sprout another, tinier tinfoil hat on top of it.

I had no idea who this person was or why this link was suddenly attached to the horrible things people were sending to me. A tour through his channel revealed videos of him "weighing in" on various current events, with a particular interest in shitting on marginalized people.

This video went down, and then another one sprang up --- this time with a higher production value and featuring a talking head whose logo was a stock photo of a smarmy guy with a crudely Photoshopped powered wig. All this user's videos were similar spittle-laden diatribes about individuals he didn't like.

Powered Wig Man-(*) created an elabotare intro that spoofed true-crime shows, with a voice-over yelling about sex for favors. Between him and Little Blue Skull Guy on YouTube, the wave of trash sent my way surged as their audiences followed wherever they pointed the finger, pitchforks and torches in hand. I was the witch of the week, and these self-styled Internet Inquisitors saw the opportunity to do what they had done to many others before me.

(*) I don't want to publicize these channels and help disseminate their garbage (remember: content-neutral algorithms), so I'll refer to them by silly names based on their personas instead. They've already made enough of a career off me.

Funnily enough, I stayed the hell away from Gamergate as it was happening, partly because I don't care about video games, let alone video games journalism, but mostly because anyone still putting "-gate" after anything slightly conspiratorial is a collossal sad-act. So when I read this, I was totally in the dark, and didn't have a clue who "powdered Wig Man" was. But Quinn's advice notwithstanding, curiosity got the better of me. I googled, found the original Quinnspiracy videos and went "holy fuck! It was Metokur!"
