Thunderf00t one track? You realise he did 48 videos on creationism, right?
That's how I became a fan of the guy. It was a great series. You'd learn a bit of popular science, running through maths in Thunderf00t's characteristically pedantic way: "Kent Hovind says that you could cover the Earth in a drop of water if you stretch it thin enough? Well no, let's run those numbers and see what is the minimum amount of water you'd need to cover the Earth to a 1-molecule thickness"
Awesome.
And I got to laugh at twats like venomfangx and you're-a-fucktard-aren't-ya-Kent-Hovind. It was low-tier for online atheism at the time, but it was fun, and you could claim it had some serious business when yanks at the time where trying to push creationism in schools through fucking "wedge strategies".
Things changed because, as was pointed out on page 1, there really isn't anything that unites atheists and sceptics once things like the Dover Trial have been put to bed. So then we get dickheads like Dick Carrier and PZ Myers deciding that atheism needs to be pepped up by onboarding a whole load of additional shit about social justice to become Atheism+. Thunderf00t is initially welcomed into this movement as a contributor to Freethought blogs, but is quickly ejected after his first post, in which he explains how much he thinks feminism sucks ass.
Now the atheist community splits. They had nothing to rally around before, but now they've got some arbitrary line across which they can fling shit. Thunderf00t plants his flag firmly in the Anti-SJW camp, suspends all hostilities to creationism, and goes on to help the cause of conflating scepticism with Anti-SJWs. A whole bunch of grifter dumbasses heed the call. Armoured Sceptic for one, admitted at Mythcon that his first exposure to online atheism was after the Atheism+ nonsense. Sargon admits in that first response to Thunderf00t leaving the community that he was the disciple to the master.
Years on, "sceptic" has nothing to do with debunking UFOs (Sargon is willing to believe in them because he sees something odd in the sky). It has nothing to do with combating lizard conspiracy theories (Sargon was a 9/11 truther). It has nothing to do with any of the old James Randi stuff or Skeptic Magazine. Now, "scepticism" is just this thing that a bunch of uneducated morons who had no business in any intellectual sphere inherited, because they saw some atheists hating on feminists and went "yeah, I hate feminists too!"
You complain about Sargon stealing memes and killing them? He stole an entire intellectual movement and killed it.
Which is fair enough. Atheist activism was dead after Dover, was already infested with retards like TJ Kirk, and was intellectually niche otherwise. It deserved to be replaced with a different form of retard.
And to be fair, if any of you feel cringey about watching early anti-SJW stuff, new atheism wasn't any less retarded. All of it, atheism, atheism+, anti-SJWs, intellectual dark webs, are all part of the great evolution of retardation, a wonderful thing to behold, and we should be grateful to be its witnesses.
