"angry" gamers/critics

Just wanted to highlight a pretty underrated reviewer I just found called Grimbeard. Grimbeard specializes in dark point and click adventures and generally horror themed games. His reviews are peppered with dark humor and self-deprecation and they're pretty fun to watch. He can get a bit rambly though and his videos are pretty long, but this guy deserves more views.

Would Pat the NES punk be considered an angry gamer? never actually saw his stuff. All i know is he's been in hot water for his Diablo Mobile comment.

Pat.... Varies. He's got some entertaining shit, and has done crossovers with other reviewers (like James Rolfe), but in more recent years he's taken the Angry Joe approach - less actual review content, more shit like podcasts, made worse by the fact that Pat's taken to adopting some pretty goddamn stupid positions. I'll let my favorite e-Autist, Hamblyburger Helper cover this one for me:

That's just one of a few dozen similar ones he's done, which has included things like arguing weeb games have no right to be on consoles. I'm not sure how much of that shit is Pat's 'tism alone, and how much of it is who he hangs out with (since his co-host is an IRL friend of Moviebob, for instance), but under the surface Pat has always been a narcissistic prick who doesn't do any of his own research and is perfectly content to attack other people online. I can say with virtual certainty that he can sustain a thread on his own.

Took a look at Twitter and got a couple screenshots of Pat & his co-host Ian's reaction to the backlash from their Diablo video.

I remember, back when Mass Effect 3 came out, and the ending subsequently being one of the biggest botches in the history of fiction began to make its presence known around the tubernets, we saw the very first of what would be a very long trend of absolute fucking mongoloids claiming that Gamers were "entitled" and that they should shut the fuck up and accept whatever crap they were given. Just like it is now, it was used to devalue actual criticism, and erode one of the most fundamental rights of a consumer (to complain about a given product's flaws). But I noticed something really interesting back then, and it's something that hasn't changed since.

It's the fact that none of the people making the entitlement argument (and its recent sister argument, the "too aggressive nerd-rage" argument) have a response to a very simple, very basic, and extremely logical question: In an environment where developers are often openly hostile to even basic criticisms, casually delete complaints and comments bringing up actual issues, and call in support from their buddies in the journo circuit to attempt to shame them into silence, what else do you want them to do?

I find that often if you ask one of these clowns this, their immediate response is to backtrack (claiming they don't disagree, but dislike the tone/find it too angry/don't like the collateral damage), try to misdirect and didn't mean what they said they did in the way they did, or go full Autist and block you/claim you're evil/etc. Either way, you've got them by the tail at that point, since they've either effectively admitted that you're right and that at the core there is a legitimate grievance, or in blocking you and running away, they've ceded the field.

What's sad about this shit is that by taking this position, people like Pat have effectively become industry apologists and self-appointed tone police, to the point where they feel the need to belittle not only consumers of something that feel they got ripped off (Blizzcon attendees in this case), but their own fucking audience, and they don't seem to understand the most basic premise of don't shit where you eat.

Some shit really doesn't change, it seems.

"It's a video game at the end of the day." - PatTheNESPunk

I can tell that self-awareness isn't a strong suit.

EDIT: And Ian apparently graduated from the Moviebob School of Online Debating.
