SJW Art and Extremes

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.

Why does Tumblr have an obsession with vitiligo?

  • Suicide Girl model and America's Next Top Model contestant have it, spread on Tumblr, that's why.

So what is your least favorite SJW art cliche? Mine is blackwashing characters that are Asian because they're not "POC enough"
The broken anatomy that only comes from years of only studying (read: mindlessly copying) other artists' work and not real life.
Bonus points if they try to do a life drawing but feel the need to inject their "style" into it. That's another cliche I hate actually, the obsession with having a unique "style".

mine is when they add features to make it more 'diverse' and 'realistic' but end up making them racist caricatures. see: buckteeth/tooth gaps on asians, big dick suckin lips on black people, etc.

My least favorite is those stupid pride flags, jeez they're so annoying and everywhere in the Hiveswap community

I see people with pride flag icons the same way other people see people with Anime icons

Second place goes to making everyone fat midgets, r.i.p. Wigfrid

To be fair, Hiveswap is the awkward child of Homestuck, so of course they are getting a lot of stupid sjw art

in response to that art, i hate when they redesign her with an opening on her back. tried it myself, :powerlevel: i'm not perfectly thin but i'm pretty moderate, and constantly reaching for your back is uncomfortable, especially if you need to do it fast for hero things. it'd make more sense to just have an opening for your stomach if they hate boobs so much.

my least favorite sjw art trend would be lumpy body proportions and those weird pointy bean mouths. "realistic" body with no comprehension of actual anatomy

EDIT: also when they choose a darker skin tone that just looks like they put a pale color first and adjusted the colors instead of picking something more organic

Since we're talking about our least favorite trends, mine is when they give a canonically white, east asian, or hispanic person super dark skin even if their official design shows otherwise. I can not for the love of me understand why this is a thing. How shallow do you have to be that you can't enjoy a character unless they look like you? (Which they probably don't anyways because the skin tone is really unnatural to say the least).

Any shitty redesign falls into this category too. It's never a natural extension of the character. It's always about how the creator "messed up" because they didn't get what they wanted.

A good tumblr post talked about how these types of people who harrass the creators are never greatful that they (the creators) even decided to go and give them what they want to begin with. They really just want to bring their media back to a point in which they got nothing because it doesn't fit their ship and headcanon.

Wait, Cirava is non-binary, there is no way they could be a lesbian

Edit: oh look Charun's there too, now we got both characters who I thought were male until Tumblr shoved it in my face

My least favorite is when someone takes someone else's art and edits it to make a character's skin darker because the artist was "whitewashing". The person who does the edits never understands lighting or color theory. See: the Splatoon discourse.
ah yes joulejay I believe is who you are talking about
