I neither like or dislike the professor and he is definitely self-aware, but his motivations leave one with questions.
He's a big hypocrite too or at least contradicts himself on certain topics.

Jordan Peterson seems like the kind of guy you feel guilty of laughing at, because he seems like a decent guy, but you know deep down part of him deserves to be laughed at.

To be fair, he was 14 at the time he said this. People at that age say a lot of shit about their future plans that turn out to be wildly unrealistic, and really bright, precocious kids aren't immune to that. [ETA: In fact, when you're a really bright and precocious kid, who is, in some ways, smarter than most of the adults around you, I'd say you're more likely to make grandiose predictions about your own future. It's kind of tough not to, when you have so many adults telling you how much tremendous potential you have.]

I also recall hearing him talk about his subsequent disillusionment with party politics as the result of working for the NDP as a teenager; when he was 16 or 17 he ceased participating entirely. But at 14, he was still new enough to it, and idealistic enough, to have big ambitions.
So no, I would not call a 56-year-old man a "hypocrite" for things he proclaimed when he was 14, and a dorky-ass kid who was smart, but not yet wise enough to know better.
He's a pretty driven kind of guy; I think that if he genuinely wanted to be PM, he would have stayed in politics and made a name for himself that way. Instead, he chose to become a psychologist, working in academia, and outside of his field nobody even knew who he was until 2016, when he was in his early 50s, and spoke out against compelled speech as legislated in Bill C-16. He didn't plan to become this immense phenomenon--he couldn't possibly have--but it's happened, and he's taking full advantage of it.
And, hey, why the fuck not, for as long as it lasts? He does at least seem to be aware that it could all implode at any time; I'll give him that. He's already had some far-right fanboys turn on him for not being right-wing enough (which they would have fucking known, had they actually listened to him).

Not only is this the most perfect description of his fanbase. But I think it applies to himself as well. Having gone through some of his book it's very clear he thinks he's a lot smarter than he really is. It also goes over a few of his own mis-steps (including the Faith Goldy thing)

Eh, Peterson is just a weird dude who spent a lot of time in academia and takes pretty much everything just a bit to seriously. I honestly think he says some smart stuff but the fans that treat him as their internet dad are way over the top.

The thing about all these libertarian "politicians"/influencers is that they all sound like they are all reading the same script in every debate.
