The only thing uglier than Bob's outside is his inside the man is garbage so no one is ever going to want to fuck him without a cash transaction involved let alone have a relationship with him. He doesn't really drink outside of his pussy wine cooler type drinks, he doesn't do drugs, or gamble all he has for vice is food and he'll never give up his junk food completely only occasionally to drop a few pounds here and there to make sure he can still fit into theater seats to see his precious MCU films on the big screen. Also getting in shape could possibly mean the bullies were right when making fun of little Bob's fat ass on the playground and he'll never do anything that could mean that when he can just hate the working class from his basement and wallow in hate and chicken nuggies.

Seeing Bob's recent hot takes reminds me he started flipping out hard about when Gamergate started and hasn't stopped since. I heard secondhand, from someone who said they knew someone who once worked with Moviebob years ago, he may have even started going political/crazy before Gamergate, in a very short period of time he changed from a somewhat abrasive nerd to someone who told his own boss he should be executed for being a libertarian.

These types were all normal nerd bloggers and game reviewers back around 2006, many of them left leaning generally, but mostly apolitical; then over the course of the Obama administration they all got radicalized. I think it was a combination of influence from peers on social media and these guys getting burned out on nerd stuff and wanting to write about anything else but that - which may be why you have so many of these people who have been writing about games or movies or whatever for years now and sound like they have no enthusiasm for it but still keep plugging away.

I think there are a couple of reasons for that.

Part of it was nerd stuff was cool, and once it wasn't cool any more they wanted to jump ship but have no employable skills. The jobs they can get pay less and are much harder work. Part of it was gamergate. It's no secret that games journalism was always corrupt, but it went from the occasional magazine shilling a AAA game to full blown sex for favours and gate keeping. Either you kissed the ring and paid the piper, or your career would be destroyed by proxy. Once that was exposed game journalists had 2 options, either admit wrong doing and improve, or go down with the ship to keep the gravy train going for a few more months. They chose the latter.

For Bob specifically though, he is unique in that he was in the clique but didn't get the benefits. He wasn't being flown to swanky parties in LA, Tokyo, and various other exotic locales. He wasn't getting $200 collectors edition in the mail like even mid tier YouTubers do. I doubt he was getting laid by PR reps, and while I personally don't think he has the nerve or the inclination for sexual assault, he had the opportunity and there's no shortage of people in that clique who did go for it.

Bob is (in part) a product of his echo chamber. He parrots the opinions of other critics uncritically. Mass Effect, Dead or Alive Xtreme 3, and recently Diablo Mobile. The motivation for the critics opinions don't apply to him. Bob is a useful idiot not just in politics, but as a critic too.

I think another reason for this, along with what @Judge Dredd said, was Obama's Presidential victory itself. I get the feeling that a lot of leftists saw Obama elected President as the final cementation of their power over the US. Not that their "progressive utopia" was necessarily complete, but that they no longer had to worry about a conservative government being in charge. As such, they no longer had to worry about civility when dealing with people that had differing political opinions. They could behave however they wanted, expressing any extremist opinion or tactic towards those who disagreed with them. Because in their mind their side had a firm grasp on the government and thus no repercussions would befall them over how they acted.

Well, that badly backfired on them since they lost a lot of power under the administration of Obama, who turned out to be a corporate sellout.

Looking back 10 years ago, I never expected that both Obama and the Democrats would turn themselves into a SJW-ideological cult club.

Bob really wasn’t even in the clique. He was the “ movie review guy” for a Video Game Web Site. Bob has always been on the outside looking in. Even with other nerds.
