I honest to god don't understand why people think Sonic Adventure 2 is the best Sonic game. It's buggy as hell, the controls are awful and most of the gameplay sucks in my opinion. I know people will bring up the Chao Garden part of the game, but to be quite honest I actually consider the Chao Garden to be a game on its own. I'm honestly surprised Sega hasn't made a game entirely devoted to raising chao yet.
Well, mines was prone to freezing while I was fighting that giant ghost in the "fight all the bosses" mode. While the gameplay felt repetitive (seriously, you can tell how the levels were padded out by the content they used), it's still feels kind of average to me. But then again, I'm not crazy for the Blue Blur.

alright next sonic games im gonna talk about are shit. its the storybook duoligy.

first game is Sonic and the Secret Rings, released for the Nintendo Wii on Febuary 2007

330px-SonicSecretRings.jpg

the games art is said to be inspired by shadow of the colossus, prince of persia, and god of war.

the game introduced another super form for sonic, Darkspine Sonic, which is a more violent form of super sonic.

sonic characters also plays roles of the storybook characters

Tails is Ali Baba

Knuckles is Sinbad the sailor

and Dr. Eggman is King Shahryar

The Story:

Sonic was sleeping after reading the Arabian Nights book, he was awakened by a ring. a genie named Shahra comes out of it and asks sonic to help her save the world of the arabian nights, which is being erased by the game's villain, Erazor Djinn, who was originally the genie from aladdin and the magiv lamp. she tells sonic that the pages from the arabian nights are going blank and if the erazor fully erases the arabian nights, he will then go and take over Sonic's World. sonic decides to go to the arabian nights worlds and fight the erazor and his monsters and also collect the seven world rings.

the game was surprisingly met with positive to mixed reviews and got a metacritic score of 69. but people know this game is crap.

why is it bad?
The camera is locked behind you at all times. even if you want to backtrack it wont turn around.
the game is played on rails, which means you cant really do much except go forward and only slightly go left or right.
unresponsive motion controls that can make the game unplayable
the controls feel like they belong in a racing game than a platformer
you are required to do side missions to proceed to the next level and continue the story
there isnt a way to figure out which side mission gives you a world ring, meaning you have to go find a guide on the internet that can help you.

the good qualities:
the soundtrack is awesome. like the games main theme, seven rings in hand

the minigames are pretty fun

the voice acting was good.

the game then got a sequel, but instead of arabian legends, its in the world of king arthur

Sonic and the Black Knight, released for the Nintendo Wii on MArch 2009

220px-Sonic_and_the_Black_Knight_Cover.jpg

like sonic and the secret rings, sonic characters play roles of storybook characters

Tails is a blacksmith

Amy is Nimue, The Lady of the Lake

Shadow is Sir Lancelot

Knuckles is Sir Gawain

Blaze is Dame Percival

Silver is Sir Galahad

and Jet is Sir Lamorak

The Story: in the world of King Arthur, a wizard girl named Merlina, who is the granddaughter of Merlin, is being chased and then cornered by a corrupted King Arthur and his monsters. she performs a summoning spell to call fourth a champion to help her, who happens to be sonic. he agress to help her while being hunted by king arthur and his monsters and his knights of the round table. sonic later obtains and befriends a talking sword name caliburn.

the game was met with mixed reviews and got a metecritic score of 54. but we know the game was crap.

why is it bad?

Like sonic and the secret rings, the game is played on rails, meaning the game sometimes plays by itself and you only slightly move left and right

sonic's sword is the only way of damaging enemies. homing attacks and jumping on enemies do nothing.

the whole "sonic with a sword" premise feels like a poorly made fan fiction that somehow got a big budget

sir gawain knuckles almost commits suicide in one cutscene. ya know, for kids!

good qualities:
soundtrack was great. and its main theme knight of the wind, courtesy of crush 40

voice acting was good.
good graphics for wii standards
melina was an interesting character

lame stories. they were so bad, sega didnt even bother with a 3rd game.

I really liked SA2 as a kid. It holds up better than the first game for sure although it does have some definite jank.

I never had issues with the controls and eventually got pretty good, at least good enough to A rank stages without too much trouble. I think that’s more just playing so much versus the controls actually being intuitive at all.

You forgot to add that Galahad and Percival were omitted from the main story and that the enemies wasn't that big of an challenge...Except for that giant sea creature in Secret Rings.

ok. next sonic game im bringing up is one for the DS

Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood. released for the Nintendo DS on September 2008.

The_Dark_Brotherhood.jpg

its an RPG game was made by sega with Bioware. yes, thats right @GethN7 and @Baldur's Gait . the same company that made Mass Effect and Baldur's Gate worked with sega on a sonic game.

playable characters:

Sonic (Power)
Amy (Shifter)
Tails (Support)
Rouge (Shifter)
Big (Support)
Knuckles (Power)
Cream (support) (Optional)
Dr. Eggman (Shifter)
Shadow (Power)
E-123 Omega (Power) (Optional)
Shade (Power)

the game has chao partners that you can equip, some can give you elemental attacks and shields while other increase your stats and other unique effects.

the game supposedly takes place after sonic rivals 2. knuckles was kidnapped by a group called the marauders and are also stealing the chaos emeralds. sonic and his friends must fight them and find out who they are. and find out who their leader, shade is.

Shade and the marauders are revealed later to be echidnas like knuckles and they are from another clan called the Nocturnas Clan, who opposed pachacamac's clan that knuckles was descended from at that time, they also created the Gizoid robots that can copy the abilities of fighters, meaning Emerl from Sonic Battle was created by them. after chaos was sealed into the master emerald by tikal, the nocturnas clan was dragged into another dimension called the twilight cage, and during that time, they became more advanced.

the game got positive reviews and was well received by critics. the game got a score of 74 out of 100 on metacritic

the good points:

some of the choices for sonic can be pretty amusing. you can make him nice and polite or just make him a huge dick.
some of the music was also nice.
shade seemed like an interesting character

the bad points of the game:

the character design looks kinda bleak
the game will sometimes slow down during battles
the game ends on a cliffhanger. and there has been no sequel ever since.
some people say that the story and ending were lame as shit.
some of the music is really bad. Bioware couldn't finish them on time.
some of the items and equipment seemed useless
the final boss fight seemed too easy.
some of the sound effects are also really bad too.
the lack of multiplayer options was disappointing

also @MarvinTheParanoidAndroid has stated in Ken Penders' thread that penders thought that sega was ripping off the characters he made for archie comics for this game and filed a lawsuit against archie and sega about it. this is the reason why shade has not been in another sonic game and a sequel was not made to sonic chronicles because of this.

heres somecallmejohnny's review of the game

not a very good rpg.

I believe that Shade never gettting a reappearance was largely due to the game's own failings, honestly. To explain the Penders debacle to whom it may concern, Penders created a group of cyborg echidnas called the Dark Legion and spent the better part of two decades building lore and backstory for them, so in essence, the Dark Brotherhood = the Dark Legion in a nutshell, hence the reason why he flipped his shit over it. It's disappointing he did that instead of just pointing and laughing at the failed game's sales & moving on because he built the backbone of the comic so much that they had to reboot after he left while taking half of the cast with him.

I was really looking forward to this one because I loved how various developers had adapted Mario to the RPG genre and always wanted to see how someone would do the same for Sonic. I probably made it two hours before giving up. Though I had played plenty of other DS games that controlled exclusively through the touch screen, something seemed off about the interface in this. I loved Elite Beat Agents, but this seemed like a rough draft of what that game pulled off magnificently. What could have been the start of a magnificent subseries (like Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi) just became another piece of garbage in the pile that lead up to Sonic Mania.

Next sonic games im gonna talk about are for the DS.

Sonic Rush. released in 2005

220px-Sonic_Rush_Coverart.png

the game introduced Blaze the cat. a cat who is a princess of another dimension who has super speed like sonic and can use pyrokinesis. she goes to sonic's world to reclaim the seven sol emeralds, the sol dimension counterpart of the seven chaos emeralds. also introducing her arch-nemesis, Dr. Eggman Nega. who is the sol dimension counterpart of Dr. Eggman.

the game also introduced Sonic's Boost ability, which would become a staple in his movesets for the series.

the good points:
the soundtrack was great. like Back 2 BAck
blaze was a good character
sonic's boost ability was introduced.
the stages were fun. like Water Palace

the bad points though:

the egg libra boss had a lame design and battling it was annoying.

then. the game got a sequel. Sonic Rush Adventure, released for the DS on Sept. 2007

220px-Sonic_Rush_Adventure.jpg

the story:
sonic and tails were flying their biplane, the Tornado, and ended up in Blaze's dimension, which a vast ocean with islands. sonic and tails team up with blaze and her friend, marine the raccoon, to go around the seas and fight captain whisker, a robot priate. while doing that, they must do side quests to get the sol emeralds and chaos emeralds.

the game has a side quest thing and grabbing materials. which can be very tedious.

both games were met with positive and favorable reviews. they were considered to be one of the best selling nintendo DS games.

I wouldn't mind playing these games to be honest.

I really don't have that good of an burn this time, since I actually liked these two.

I wouldn't mind playing these games to be honest.
Well, the second one is mostly better than the first one, if you don't mind the item crafting and wasting time trying to find the hidden islands and six Chaos Emeralds.

I wouldn't mind playing these games to be honest.

All you really need is the soundtrack from Rush.

Speaking of, what the fuck is Hideki Naganuma doing these days? He needs to start pumping out more JSR-esque music.

Alright. next games im gonna talk about is the sequel to sonic riders.

Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity. Released for the Playstation 2 and Nintendo Wii on January 8th, 2008

81zxkwsBifL._AC_SX215_.jpg

Story: during one night, a bracelet known as the ark of the cosmos crashes from the sky and makes a bunch of meteotech robots malfunction and begin raiding places around the world looking for the
other 4 arks. another one fell near tails and he gfave it to sonic, but they are targeted by the meteotech robots. thye later find out that the arks can manipulate matter and use it to control gravity. so the story focuses on team sonic and team babylon conflicting and trying to find all of them.

later after a conflict with eggman at crimson tower, sonic, tails, knuckles, and amy decide to give the arks they have to jet, wave, and storm. but then, the robot SCR-HD comes and steals all 5 of the arks from wave and flys to Babylon Garden. the heroes find out that babylon garden (from sonic riders) was actually a spaceship and the Babylonians came from space and the arks of the cosmos were their creation, and if brought back, it would make babylon garden create a black hole. and thats what SCR-HD does. the exterior falls off and babylon garden becomes astral babylon, and generates a black hole that threatens to consume the entire planet. sonic and his gang along with team babylon went in and fought SCR-HD, now Master Core: ABIS, in the Mobius Strip and destroy him and stop the black hole.

sonic and his gang went back to megalo station only for jet to speed by and sonic decides to go after and race him.

the game added new mechanics

gravity control. you can change gravity to take shortcuts.

Air-Ride. it lets you fly from fly ramps and go through boost rings.

Bike. you can smash through obstacles.

Yacht. windsurf boards. lets you fly from fly ramps and through boost rings and ride opponent's slipstreams. this is much like Disney's Treasure Planet.

Wheel. Monowheels. can break obstacles and perform slide turns. but gravity control is shorter.

Characters:

Speed (Grind):
Sonic
Jet
Amy
Shadow
Blaze
Amigo From Samba De Amigo

Flight (Air Ride):
Tails
Wave
Cream
Rouge
Silver
NiGHTS from NiGHTS
SCR-HD

Power (Bike)
Knuckles
Storm
Dr. Eggman
Billy Hatcher from Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg

the game was met with mixed reviews.

the Good points of the game:
awesome soundtrack. especially its main theme, un-gravitify

Good Controls
NiGHTS from NiGHTS, Amigo from Samba De Amigo, and Billy Hatcher from Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg are playable
good variety of vehicles
stages were cool.
story and ending were nice.
80s Boulevard and 90s Boulevard were cool stages
the hang on gear plays its theme when used, which is cool.

Bad Points:
some gameplay elements from the previous game were removed.
lack of online play.

pretty good racing game.
