Super Smash Bros.

Just pick an unfussy character with no real gimmicks: Mario, Donkey Kong, Kirby, Ganondorf, Ike, Cloud. Or you can try characters with good recovery like Pikachu, Pit, Meta Knight, R.O.B. so that you don't die as often while trying to learn the new mechanics.

- Final Fantasy 12, they tried to shoehorn so much shit into that game (the characters and arcs for both Vaan and Panelo) that the director broke down from stress and was hospitalized. While hospitalized they put those characters in the game and he wouldn't work with the company again until years later (and only for a current FFXII x FFXIV cross event).
That isn't even a Square Enix thing, that's a Japanese thing. The Japanese corporate culture already has huge problems with mandetory unpaid overtime and 6-7 day work weeks, leading to an awfully large number of deaths by overworking. Add to that the stress of being a director while the bumblefucks above you try to shove demands in they gleaned from marketing and it's a surprise more Japanese game devs don't keel over sick or dead during crunchtime.
Yet people will defend SE like they are the best gaming company ever. Tomb Raider was also part of the fiasco. I know XV was pretty much hot water.
Don't forget all the shit they got for this gem

It's also a video game company thing (American gamedev companies do this also) but even among Japanese companies Square has a bad reputation about it. They are allegedly the worst of the worst; which is an accomplishment of it's own.

Anyone have character reccs for someone who hasn’t fucked with these games in a while?
I would suggest using Pit, Chrom, Wolf. They're all very newbie friendly and have pretty straightforward specials/recoveries/playstyles.

From what I hear the musicians at Square own the tracks they compose so having it show up in Smash is a legal headache.
Guess Sakurai should have kept Nobuo Uematsu on staff. All the memorable songs are from him. Well and the guy that did Tactics but no Tactics characters in Smash.

I'm rusty too, Troon Link was my main go to when I unlocked him, the classic characters are also good for familiarity sake (Except Samus, she's awful this time around).

EDIT: Fucking typo, I'm keeping it as is though.
What game was Samus not awful in?
