What fascinates me is that this seems to parallel cults to an uncanny degree, and not just in the broad strokes of rabid tribalism, crushing groupthink, and categorical rejection of any input proffered by outsiders. This of course isn't the case for SocJus, as its ideology is inherently political and therefore predicated upon the exact opposite; that is this life, and the affairs of others. Can't protect all those innocent refugees without doing something about the deplorables in society, no?

Being two years and 1500 pages behind the rest of the thread, I have to ask what happens―or happened―after the collapse? Everything I've read (not just here) about the zealots suggests that they're both desperate and zealous enough to take extreme action.

The diehards, humorously, have ultimately exhausted themselves.

A year of being completely impotent politically and suffering loss after loss wore their enthusiasm down to nothing and drove them to despair, forcing them to move from expansion to trying to desperately keep themselves from losing control of their echo chambers and audiences. While they're more aggressive than ever, their influence is on the wane and everyone but themselves can see it. They're going kicking and screaming of course, but their relevance is over beyond their ability to abuse the system on social media. Unfortunately the more that the more vitriolic users lash out, the more it wakes common users up to unite against them.

You can look at ResetERA's thread for a real-time example of a community that constantly sheds membership through needless purity tests and doesn't have the ability to bring in more because the existing community is either out of its goddamn mind trying to ban people for tangential disagreement or trying desperately to try to keep their heads down and avoid drawing the ire of the ban-happy mods. This has done a beautiful job of restraining ERA's influence, and it will never have the kind of influence NeoGAF did at its zenith.

Now throw in the fact that so many neoprogressive platforms have been forced to shutter their doors and close down due to financial mismanagement and failure, and you have why they're so scared.

As Trump continues to wrap up win after win, seemingly in spite of the roadblocks thrown in his way, and as they lose electorally, over and over again, they only grow more desperate and prone to impotently lashing out, and the first people they're going to turn on after they blame everyone but themselves is the malcontents in their own midsts. They'll ultimately destroy themselves, most likely furnishing threads here in the process.
