Yeah Genndy Tartovsky really wanted to do a Popeye movie. Sony was naturally against a movie that would make money because that would impact their record.

I bet they have a literal Boomer in charge of their social media accountsI'm shocked the official social media sites have the balls to reply to these users. Normally they would either ignore or block them. In this case? They reply.
His last incarnation made him younger, but that was about it.Atleast the pink pather hasnt been fucked over right?
It doesn't help they can't even let these guys talk normally anymore as they want to impress people who don't understand English halfway across the word (or having to redub these into other languages for that matter)....This is the LAST thing I expected to be remade, given the outrage mentality behind his 21st-century reception.
"Oh! This show is aimed for the new generation!"
Oh, go fuck yourselves you sanctimonious Tumblr refugees, there are people who know EXACTLY why this was rebooted and that you knew how we'd react to it.
Not to mention local stations sometimes having a "Popeye" show as well.Aside from the late-1970s/early-1980s Saturday morning cartoon, the Robin Williams movie, and the Nintendo arcade game,
I remember those days, good times!I also knew about Popeye as a kid because of the candy cigarettes which I believe are still being sold today but as "candy sticks" and they changed the format of the box to look less like a cigarette carton.

It's such a waste this never happened. You should see the pre-production drawings they had for this, all perfect!Okay, that new web series is cancer. It seriously looks like one of those disturbing "YouTube Kids" videos made by creepers. What the fuck.
Anywho, I loved Popeye as a kid. I remember when Cartoon Network used to show a lot of classic cartoons, and that's how I found out about Popeye.
Also, just putting this out there ... Years ago, Sony Animation Studios was going to make a Popeye movie. They canceled it ... For the Emoji Movie.
Here was the test footage they released. It looked so promising:
When are they going to pull the "social experiment" card?
That was clearly in jest, though.Didn't they tried that one with that Minute Maid ad?
I never saw that version before. Guess Orange juice finally made them men and stop crying for women.Didn't they tried that one with that Minute Maid ad?
When I saw that title card without reading the post, I thought this was something drawn by Doug Walker, it looks that bad. The video itself is even worse. How's about we make this thread about another shitty, badly animated reboot of an old cartoon as well?

Shorty was so obnoxious for us in Latin America, too. In the 1968 Mexican dubbing, the narrator said "And that was a VERY HAPPY ENDING" instead "The Bitter End".
Interesting if they did alter the end like that. Still, that was a great cartoon all it's own, and one of those instances Popeye didn't do his thing! The older Popeye cartoons from the 30s had adult humor in them that was appealing:
By the way one of the comments:
Is that true?

The early 40's had some great gems like "Me Musical Nephews".There’s also this.
Which is kinda fitting, Olive asked Popeye for help and she laughs at his misfortunes.
